Banzai Buckaroo

I have never seen this movie before. I stumbled across this weird 80's movie and got sucked in. Mind you, I do not have the volume turned on at all. Media is best consumed in the vacuum of silence. So...we have some familiar faces. Jeff Goldblum as a cowboy...the weird-faced guy from Better Off Dead and Ghost...I think it's John Lithgow as a crazy professor guy...Some very cheesy special effects. Oh yeah, Harley Davidson was a sponsor apparently because they have HD stuff all over the place.
I don't really understand the plot so I'll have to listen to the Throwback Reviews episode. Oh look, now they're wearing weird face masks and talking to a shiny black chick with dreads. I do like all the retro computer gear and tragic 80's clothing.

I classify Banzai Buckaroo (I'm on board) as one of those movies that you just had to be there. My buddy and I have very similar tastes in movies. He saw it as a kid and I didn't; he loves it and I've watched it three times and never got into it.

Wait, do I have it straight that you watched the greatest sci-fi comedy of all time with the sound off? I must have read that wrong. I know Jonsey knows about movies mainly because they're in a 320x200 window on his second monitor while he's "warezin' mames" or whatever the kids do these days. But come on, man.

(While I was writing this, Flack posted the above. Now I just wanna cry. I thought maybe BB was the one thing we all -- all of us -- had in common. But no, I guess it's just disliking Billy Mays.)

John Lithgow's character in this movie has SO MANY great lines.

"Home is where you wear your hat!" Come on. Everyone who doesn't love this movie has to go watch it again on endless loop until they agree with me.

I'm sure it sounded very nice. I rarely watch anything with the sound on. Techmoan and Captain Disillusion are two exceptions. Anything on the television box is usually muted. I can make the dialog up in my head, who needs the actual sound. BB looked like a low budget 80's movie. I was enjoying the 5-1/4 floppy drives on the computer showing real-time video communication. Suspension of disbelief, uh-huh.

But to be fair I'd keep the sound off for Casablanca as well.

I have no idea what to say to this.

For future generations, the name of the movie is The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension.

You did have to be there. Or at least think that you can get there mentally. I don't remember if I saw it in the 80s or not. Maybe the TV version, which is not the real thing. I did grab a copy off Usenet a few years ago and it's one of the movies that is still on my hard drive because of how delightfully incomprehensible it is.

Take this, which I hope displays. I honestly don't know if they rehearsed it or not. Is Goldblum breaking character?

I would like to propose a new long-running thread in which Aardvark watches 80s movies on mute (without subtitles) and tells us what he thinks they are about.

Actually, a number of people have already told me that they like me and appreciate the things that I do here.
