I thought you already HAD a flash card.. the one I have works great, although you need to patch EEPROM games. It's packed real nice, comes in a metal case nicer than if you were to buy a commercial cart (Driver 2 is actually in it) You don't even have to remove the flash cart, just plug in the parallel/USB cable (USB is 19 bucks more). There's a screen that comes on the GBA and tells you the status of the flash. It sucks batteries when flashing but seems to be normal when just playing it. No big deal since it's rechargeable ;)
If you could find a flash cart that completely supports EEPROM I would get that just so you don't have to patch. And I'm not completely sure Pogoshell works right - it boots but has problems running games. Pogoshell is the front end that runs Divx, MP3, etc. I haven't had use for it yet because I've just put games on there.
Works great though, all games work 100% so far and you can't even tell it's not a normal GBA cart unless you're really looking for it.

Get the USB version if you have SP.

It's hardly "plauged with problems" over parallel but it did mention not patching...
Thanks for the review

I think that will be the one I get. Now you know more about this than I at this point. Is it possible to put MP3's on the carts and play it on GBA? How about short movies???
Q me in!

Well after waiting 2 weeks for tokyo joe to send me my cart, I am finally cool enough to hang with the big dogs on this board.
I ordered the USB 256 Flash2advance from
www.micmic.net.
Man, I am as happy as a lip pusher splitting the cavern if you know what I mean.
I am extremely glad I bought this and would recommend it to anyone who has not purchased.
Now I need to figure out how to use Pogoshell as even with the 256 pro cartridge, I am still only getting 3 to 4 games on it. Anyone have any suggestions? Also I am struggling with the Sonic 2 not saving the game.
Well, I guess I need to study a little here.
Anyway, thanks for the games again Jackstraw and everyone else who helped in my endeavour.

Sonic Adventure 2? Hmm, I think it works fine without patching for me, but I don't really remember (with all those games I've still only flashed the card once.. Sonic Advance 2 and Advance wars have been more then enough for now)
If you don't use Pogoshell, the loader can only do SRAM saves, but Pogoshell has full EEPROM support, which *should* mean that you wouldn't need to patch anything. I couldn't get it to work right but I assumed it was because I have an SP and the parallel linker.
(And being that this window has been open for >half hour, I forgot what I was going to say here)
Got Sonic working!

So, with Lik Sang getting fined, can flash carts still be purchased anywhere? You need a flash cart if you want to develop games on your own, right? I am almost positive that's right.
Game Wallet for Gameboy is great!

Well the 4 games I was getting on my 256 flash2advance cartridge was not satisfying me so I bought the compact flash game wallet and a couple of 256 compact flash cards. This is a great little device for Gameboy Flash cartridge owners.
I like it because the damn writer software that came with my USB linker to the game cartridge is a pain in the ass.
With the game wallet things are so much easier and I can put around 20 games on a 256 mb flash memory card.
I would highly recommend one of these to those of you who have bought the flash2advance cartridges.

Hold on Karate Kid, maybe I should have explained what the game wallet is.
The Compact Flash Game Wallet requires the end user to have a flash cartridge as well. Basically the game wallet makes it so I dont have to hook my gameboy up to a computer every time I want to switch games.
I like playing 5 different games at a time you know :)
Here is a good site with info:
http://www.micmic.net/ProductDetails.asp?ProductID=698
So, Mr. Miagi, I will be keeping my cartridge as I must have it to perform flamingo kick and squish just like grape!

Lik-Sang was not a manufacturer, just one of the largest distributors. They are still available from dcslinks and micmic, who both me and Milker have ordered from with success. And if you want to develop your own games, you have the choice of an emulator or a flash cart. "real" developers typically use the carts for beta testing...
You Should Jumo On Board Robb

I am considering getting one. I dunno. I think I may take the $100 it would cost me and throw it into some new clothes. There is a hawaiian shirt that I have had my eye on that looks just like the one the guy from "Vice City" is wearing. Only it's $52. I don't currently own a hawaiian shirt, but come on, Vice City apparrel, you gots to love it.

Keep in mind the flash cart costs more than the GBA. I do love the fucking thing tho... my car is not starting (again - gotta love an 85 Audi) so I'm bussing it and it has reminded me why I purchased it.

I realize you're able to fix your own car and so forth, but if you do get to the point one day when you are again looking for a new one, let me know and I'll gladly give you my dad's number. He might not have what you're looking for (IIRC your tastes are rather specific), but if he can, he'll certainly hook you up nicely.
