Job is almost completely replacing the 35+ year old Trane hvac system with modern shit. Heat pump going through the ceiling vents with all ancient baseboard heaters disabled. Whole house heated instead of just rooms occupied. No more need for constantly closing internal doors. Finally.

In my old house I would keep the first floor vents closed all summer so the A/C would go straight up to the bedrooms and work it's way down. Then in the fall I'd have to switch everything back. I even built a mini panel with a fan in it to help pull the cold air upstairs, which worked marginally. Moving to a single floor home made the biggest difference.

You installing the heat pump yourself?

That makes sense. I'm in a 1-story brick house.

Nah, so basically a good friend of mine who also has been our DnD DM for quite a while used to work in HVAC with his dad, and his dad has done it basically all his life. Other estimate I got was stupid high and this guy is working on my house on the weekends outside of his regular job for a few thousand less. His son did all the grunt work for him as he did the technical stuff. I just helped lug a few heavy pieces out the door and cleaned up behind them.

Update: the summer 2025 project was to build a flower garden in the front so there can be even more plants. For some weird reason the plants arrived in the Spring instead of the Fall so I had to do it now.

The great wall of dirt and stone.

Also: got the nephew to come over (finally) and move the hot tub off the patio while it's empty. We scraped away all around the stones to make room for the polymeric sand. He has to run the tamper over it again. We just need a good sunny day.

It's one of these things. The use it on new driveways and stuff to settle the gravel. Of course most driveway companies have a big ass roller but these are way more portable

Put in a trash hiding fence thing so the neighborhood doesn't look down their noses at us
