I thought it was a statement of belief, not a joke. Now, if he had called Jerry Lee Lewis "that jail-bait banging singer," I would not have commented as, as far as I know, that is an accurate statement.

However, I just looked up his page in Wikipedia; it says JLL married "his 13-year-old cousin, once removed." So it is likely Chain Gun guy was right all alongn. There's another reason, which I think applied even back when he got married. You have to be 18 to get married, but with parental consent you can marry at 16. However, one can go before a judge who must issue permission for a couple to marry at any age even without parental consent, if the girl is pregnant. The conclusion is left as an exercise for the reader.
