I take that back. I've watched a few episodes now, and it's basically MacGyver + high school chemistry.

Or, to put it another way, Breaking Bad is to Revenge of the Nerds what Christian Bale's Batman is to Val Kilmer's Batman.

The MacGuyver stuff largely falls away as the series goes on.

DO NOT PIGEONHOLE THIS PROGRAMME.

OK, OK, I'm into the second season now, and will admit it's not the worst thing I've ever watched.

Addendum: It's like MacGyver + high school chemistry + exploding turtles.

But I still say the overarching theme is overplayed these days.

OK, plus half of Mr. Show. Bob Odenkirk just appeared onscreen, but in my mind, this show just improved EXPONENTIALLY.
