Look, I followed that team through like TWELVE YEARS of absolute misery. When you know what that's like, then come talk to me.

I mean, he WAS a Saints for a lot of lean years.
And, well, a Sabres fan.

I went to the Sabres game last night. Lit up Detroit 7-3.
Bowen Byram has 3 goals (and 4? maybe 5? points) in 3 games with Buffalo. If he can stay healthy, I declare Buffalo to be the winner of the MIttlestadt/Byram trade.

what??!?! You went to that game! JELLY!
That's great. I forget that you can just DO that when you choose. Dang.
And BO was out there dispensing the elbows instead of absorbing them!!
I read a thing that said we are 7 points out of a playoff spot after 65 games, the same spot we were in last year.

Buffalo is now 3 points out of a playoff spot!
Unfortunately, Detroit and Washington also stand between us and that last spot (the Islanders), and all of those teams have games in hand on us.
I'm not saying its impossible... but it's a long shot.
A postseason appearance will cost me a fortune. Shawn has never been to a Sabres playoff game, so I'm sure we'll have to go!

This was my joke, btw. That was the point of my post.

We are all still trying to get to know one another! We're all making jokes!
Here is my own MISERY INDEX:
Football: no misery. The Saints winning a Super Bowl was the most unbelievable thing that ever has happened in sports. If that's it for my whole life that is fine. I can't believe we are sitting with our dope of a coach while Belichick is out there, but I am not miserable.
Hockey: no misery. I officially switched to the Sabres a few years back. Before that I was doing the 50/50 thing with the Flyers, and then the 100% / zero thing with the Flyers. I did watch a playoff game with my dad in Buffalo and wore a Sabres sweatshirt, not a Flyers one. It would be nice to be able to see a playoff series featuring Buffalo, but there is no misery here. I am just enjoying getting to know the players.
Baseball: MILD misery. The 22 year gap in playoff appearances was bad. Now the Blue Jays go to the playoffs but do not win any games. The 2015 and 2016 seasons, complete with hilarious playoff adventures like Encarnacion hitting that game winning HR against Baltimore with their best pitcher on the bench and the bat flip game were great. It would be nice to see this crew win a single playoff game I guess?
College Basketball: no misery. The Orange won once, what are ya gonna do. I only watch them during the tournament.
Boxing: no misery, this is a sport my dad liked.
Minor league baseball: it would be nice to see the Red Wings win it all.
Minor league hockey: IF the Amerks went to the finals, I guess I would have to see if I were in a position to fly to Binghamton or St. John's or something to see them? Are those two teams even in the league any more?
NBA: no misery, I do not really follow basketball. I like Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray. I guess I don't like American basketball players or something. We're all American in Colorado though.
Do I seem miserable? I may be miserable for other reasons. Not sports!!

Heh. They'd have to build another new stadium for that to happen again.

Because the last time they won the Governor's cup was in 1996, the same year they built Frontier Field. I was there and it was super cool.

Colorado has a team! The Colorado Eagles play in Loveland. If there is ever a Rochester/Colorado final, I plan on attending all of the games.
There is an entire Western Conference now. You may not have to fly far at all!

I have been to Loveland! Now I have to check to see if the Amerks ever come out here.

They do not. AHL hockey is like old school MLB. We dont play any Western Conference teams until the Finals. :(

Sabres lost to the Red Wings yesterday. The RED WINGS. What a terrible loss. For a team trying to make a late playoff run, that was must-win, and they did not. Huge setback.

Not officially. Just a setback. 5 game west coast trip starting tonight in Seattle likely decides their season.

And now all of the players are talking about how they want more accountability, higher intensity, etc etc.
That tells me that the next captain of the Buffalo Sabres is not on the current roster. Otherwise, that person would have stepped and and demanded those things of his teammates.
Buh bye.

Lindy Ruff has been hired! Re-hired!
He has owned property in the area since 1979. Please don't hit me but I never knew he played for the Sabres. Guess I missed it. Don't hit me!
I don't know what to think. I guess it's possible that the best candidate on the market that would come to Buffalo is a guy who was a coach here for 15 years before.
