GET LAMP
You can pre-order it now and save $10.
http://www.getlamp.com/order
He's gonna release it in March, 2010! This thread won't be as good as the thread on the BBS Documentary, though, mostly because everyone is in lite-post mode for the holidays, and also because I have an idea of how much movies cost to make now. :(

Jason got so many pre-orders through Paypal, Paypal shut his account off.
ARE.
YOU.
FUCKING.
KIDDING.
ME.
PAYPA-- oh yeah, also
They closed up *early* for the night. Herp derp, turn an income source for a dude off and go home for the evening early, clapping hands, giving each other high-fives.
What a bunch of fucking scumbags.
I'm amazed - of all the shitty things that Google has destroyed - that they haven't set their sights to Paypal yet.

I do like that all these websites demand your phone number, so some dipshit manager somewhere can cover his ass, but under no circumstances will they call for something like turning off your revenue stream.
I am a fixer. I like to fix problems. Here's what they should have done, if they were to leave that stupid policy in place, which is stupid:
- Get a list of people they are going to shut down together.
- Call them. Make an actual attempt to contact them for up to 72 business hours.
- Put hemlock in the drinking fountain at the Paypal headquarters and main office

Like I said, this is exactly what happened with the Pandora handheld. I believe PayPal's terms of service say (somewhere down in the fine print, no doubt) that if you are excepting payment for goods, those goods have to ship within the refund time (45 days). In other words, you can't accept payment for goods and then say "I'll ship it in 60 days" because then the payer couldn't apply for a refund in time if the buyer never shipped the item.
Of course people do this all the time and who knows why certain accounts get flagged. The Pandora team pre-sold 3,000 consoles at just over $300 USD each. Having close to a million dollars pop into your PayPal account overnight probably triggers something.
It's a bummer that Jason's account got flagged; hopefully he'll get everything straightened out. What happened with the Pandora was we all got refunds, and due to the fact that the American dollar was fluctuating so much at the time, I lost $50 in the deal after the conversion process. Of course, since Jason's account is US based, if they do offer refunds no one will lose any money but it'll still be a pain for everyone involved.
Note to self: if I ever offer pre-sales for one of my books, either {A} don't use PayPal or {B} sell "tokens" or something that count as a sale.

I was going to offer a solution to "fix" the issue, because I am smarter than everyone in management at Paypal (as is everyone here) but for some reason I had to leave suddenly, so I just aborted the message with the hopes that they'd all kill themselves. I hope that came through.

Actually, they have. Google has Google Payments, in which they can either provide you with a single button for ordering one item at a fixed price, or you can use their API if you want to use them as a payment processor.Ice Cream Jonsey wrote:I'm amazed - of all the shitty things that Google has destroyed - that they haven't set their sights to Paypal yet.
Their service charge is very reasonable, 3% of the transaction plus 30c, and no monthly service charge. All you need to use the API is a return page that supports https: which if you need it, you can get Secure Sockets Layer from GoDaddy for an extra $20 a year in addition to the $10 or so per year for registration, and the $0 (ad supported) or $4 a month hosting options.
Given the general rise in expenses and fall in the typical standard of living, the future ain't what it used to be.

I'm glad you bumped this. It was good of you to bump that.
I haven't had a chance to watch the movie yet. I'm sort of wondering if I will ever see Pinback again. It'd be good to watch it then, right?
Someone on Twitter or something mentioned how the 360 would play it. The 360 is hooked up to my HD monitor, the only HD device in my home. Fuck and Yeah! That's how I ought to watch parts of it.
Did anyone else on this BBS order the thing? Or just me and Flack? Can I get some goddamn answers? How did both my bulletin boards die off at exactly the same time?
