The Ryder Cup Discussion
Before, it seemed like that Europe will dominate again, considering that the U.S. Team will be Tiger-less, but now it seems like that the U.S. Team will also have some advantage, as many players in the team have experience to the golf course, which is Valhalla Golf Club.
Here's the survey poll: Which team do you think will win the Ryder Cup? The poll is open between today to Thursday.
I vote for Team United States, because they have more experience on the course.
Current Score: 1-0.

You know what? Fuck you, man. You're amazing.pinback wrote:Ryder Cup is stupid.
You have written, what, a dozen golf articles for the front bloggy page? And now someone new comes in to talk about the Ryder Cup and that is your response? Fucking seriously? And you have the unmitigated audacity to complain that nobody posts here anymore?
I would honestly like to understand your innate ability to be a wonderful human being 99 times out of 100 and then IMMEDIATELY switch to a rancor-spewing shitbeast the INSTANT someone new drops by here with an opinion or take that is 0.00001% off yours.
Let's illuminate your example by making one up. As you may know, I enjoy text games. If someone came on here and said, "Wow, those Sierra adventure games with a text parser are fun, aren't they?" if I were you, my reply would be, "Sierra Games are stupid."
Don't you see? Don't you see how wrong that is? JESUS CHRIST MAN!
I will make a prediction about the Ryder Cup: the Europeans will kill us. Americans choke in competition like that, and it sickens me. I mean, we lost the world baseball classic two years ago. How the fuck does that happen? We couldn't find enough guys throwing 97 with movement to baffle the fuckers in the rest of the world? What a joke.
Yes, the Europeans will kill us. It'll be over by day two.

I'm gonna go WAYAYYAYYAYYAYYY out on a limb and guess that this isn't a "new user" who just "happened by" and decided to "post under a guest account" to discuss the "Ryder Cup" on this stupid ass BBS.
Just gonna go out on a limb.

When you need my help because I'm ruining everything, don't look at me.
Okay, I usually don't mind everyone stating their own opinions, as long as they're meaningful to the discussion and not too offensive. Actually, I'm not really a big Ryder Cup fan, but I do watch it when it's around. And I certainly don't think that it's "stupid". The reason for me to create this board is for discussing with people who are interested in the Ryder Cup, and certainly, lots of people will be interested, especially the Americans and Europeans.
Anyways, about the Ryder Cup, it seems peculiar that the Europeans have always been dominating the Americans recently, while in the Presidents Cup, the Americans always dominate the Internationals. Some would say that the European field is much stronger than the International field, but that's not always true. The two fields doesn't have much difference in strength. So probably it is the choking factor, as ICJ mentioned, since the Americans probably did put much more pressure on themselves for the Ryder Cup than the Presidents Cup.
Hopefully, this year, the Americans will turn this around and win the Ryder Cup for the first time in 9 years, by playing as well as they did in the Presidents Cup. Go Americans!

Here are more of my predictions for the Ryder Cup. This prediction is the prediction of which team will win the Friday Foursomes Match. The USA Team members are on the left while the European Team members are on the right side.
1. Phil Mickelson/Anthony Kim vs. Padraig Harrington/Robert Karlsson: Phil Mickelson and Anthony Kim are very skilled players, being near the top of the FedExCup rankings. Meanwhile, Padraig seems to be not in his best shape at this moment, missing two cuts in Playoff events. Predicted Result: US Team wins 2UP
2. Justin Leonard/Hunter Mahan vs. Henrik Stenson/Paul Casey: Neither of the 2 US Team members have won a Ryder Cup match, so this match goes to the Europeans. Predicted Result: Team Europe wins 1UP
3. Stewart Cink /Chad Campbell vs. Justin Rose/Ian Poulter: Cink and Campbell have been very consistent on the PGA Tour this year, so they should get the win. Predicted Result: US Team wins 2UP
4. Kenny Perry/Jim Furyk vs. Lee Westwood/Sergio Garcia: For this match, Europe wins, hands down. Sergio Garcia and Lee Westwood have a combined of 28 Ryder Cup Match wins in total. Predicted Result: Team Europe Wins 3UP

I hope you know that even though we may be golf amateurs, we are appreciating your posts on the subject. I, for one, feel like I am learning something.
On the other hand, at least nobody is derailing the shit out of the topic, so that's good, too.
Thank you, RCD.

America's second worst columnist, Rick Reilly had the following to say about the Ryder Cup! I've pulled out the quotes that made me roll my eyes:
Ha! Ahh... ha! Way to go, Rick! You write worse than any fucking blogger I've ever visited twice, by the way!will go down as the greatest shocker since Lyle Lovett married Julia Roberts, so here goes:
This is a mistake the size of New Coke.
This USA team is longer than Tolstoy.
Holmes is tougher than a Costco steak.
He went iris-to-iris with Tiger for most of the Accenture Match Play.
Zinger has a new strategy. He doesn't give a deceased rodent how comfy the team-room couches are.
The USA has six rookies who don't know the Euros usually whip the Americans like Rachael Ray whips eggs.

Anyway, here are the golf results for Day One. There have been quite a few surprises today, such as the Americans playing incredibly well.
1. Phil Mickelson/Anthony Kim vs. Padraig Harrington/Robert Karlsson: Match was halved. Not much surprise here.
2. Justin Leonard/Hunter Mahan vs. Henrik Stenson/Paul Casey: Leonard and Mahan won. This was fairly surprising because Justin Leonard hasn't won a RC match yet and Hunter Mahan missed both cuts in previous majors.
3. Stewart Cink/Chad Campbell vs. Justin Rose/Ian Poulter: Not much surprise here about Cink/Campbell winning, but the surprising comeback was when the Americans were 3 down through 7 holes and still won.
4. Kenny Perry/Jim Furyk vs. Lee Westwood/Sergio Garcia: Match was halved. Slightly surprising because Westwood and Garcia had excellent RC records, but it was great that the Americans handled them very well.
5. Phil Mickelson/Anthony Kim vs. Padraig Harrington vs. Graeme McDowell: Americans won. Apparently, Lefty and Kim make a great team together, as they obtained 1.5 points in one day, and they made a comeback after going 3 down thru 4 holes.
6. Steve Stricker/Ben Curtis vs. Ian Poulter/Justin Rose: Europeans won. This wasn’t really a surprise because the two Americans are both rookies.
7. Justin Leonard/Hunter Mahan vs. Sergio Garcia/Miguel Angel Jiminez: Leonard/Mahan won. Again. Beating Sergio Garcia this time. So far this tournament, Justin Leonard and Mahan is the second biggest surprise.
8. J.B. Holmes/Boo Weekley vs. Lee Westwood/Soren Hansen: Match was halved.
Apparently, it’s about time that the Americans will finally win the Ryder Cup, after losing to Europe for the past 3 times. It’s great that the rookies in the American team are playing so well under pressure.

Also, here are my predictions for tomorrow's foursomes match:
9. Chad Campbell/Stewart Cink vs. Ian Poulter/Justin Rose: The same match was already done today, and the Americans won. But this time, the Europeans might play better than they did today. Prediction: Europeans win 1UP
10. Justin Leonard/Hunter Mahan vs. Miguel Jiminez/Graeme McDowell: Justin Leonard and Hunter Mahan definitely make a great team together, and they probably have a chance to win again. Prediction: Americans win 2UP
11. Anthony Kim/Phil Mickelson vs. Henrik Stenson/Oliver Wilson: 1) I've never heard of Oliver Wilson before, and 2) Lefty and Kim make an excellent team. The result is obvious. Prediction: Americans win 4UP
12. Jim Furyk/Kenny Perry vs. Padraig Harrington/Robert Karlsson: Although Jim Furyk and Kenny Perry don't have a good RC history record, they're playing well this Ryder Cup. But Harrington and Karlsson are also playing very well, and they have good Ryder Cyp records. Prediction: Europeans win 1UP.
Predicted Standings thru Sat. Foursomes:
USA: 7.5 points
Europe: 4.5 points.

You know what, I am sorry to derail the thread with that thing on RR. (Confidential to G. D'Avis, Georgia: The worst columnist working right now is Richard Griffin, up in Toronto, who covers the Jays.) I am amazed that the Americans are doing so well.
D-do.... do you think there is a chance that Reilly was right about it being better that Tiger is not playing? Because if he is an enormous killjoy, maybe that IS a negative? I am not saying that he doesn't try his hardest. I... I guess I don't know what I am saying, and open it up to ... discussion!

I think that the reason the Americans are playing so well isn't exactly because of the absence of Tiger Woods. After all, Tiger Woods did earn plenty of points in the previous Ryder Cup. I think the main reason they're playing so well is that the course is beneficial to them.Ice Cream Jonsey wrote: D-do.... do you think there is a chance that Reilly was right about it being better that Tiger is not playing? This morning has been fairly interesting, with all these ups and downs. The Day 2 results and Day 3 predictions will be posted at the end of the day. Right now, here are my predictions for this afternoon's Four-ball matches:
Match 13: Boo Weekley/J.B. Holmes vs. Lee Westwood/Soren Hansen: The same match was already played yesterday, and the match was halved. The same thing will probably happen again. Prediction: Match halved
Match 14: Ben Curtis/Steve Stricker vs. Sergio Garcia/Paul Casey: This match involves Sergio Garcia in the European side, and both Americans are rookies, so this match will be for the Europeans. Prediction: Europeans win 2UP
Match 15: Kenny Perry/Jim Furyk vs. Ian Poulter/Graeme McDowell: Kenny Perry and Jim Furyk were fantastic all week, and they'll likely continue to play well. Prediction: Americans win 2UP
Match 16: Phil Mickelson/Hunter Mahan vs. Henrik Stenson/Robert Karlsson: Lefty and Mahan played well together last year at the Presients Cup, but Henrik Stenson and Robert Karlsson are also very good players, so it'll likely be a tie. Prediction: Match halved

Here are the results for the Day 2.
Match 9: Ian Poulter/Justin Rose (EUR) beat Stewart Cink/Chad Campbell (USA). My prediction: Correct.
Match 10: Justin Leonard/Hunter Mahan (USA) halved the match with Miguel A. Jimenez/Graeme McDowell (EUR). My prediction: Incorrect.
Match 11: Phil Mickelson/Anthony Kim (USA) lost to Henrik Stenson/Oliver Wilson (EUR). Okay, I guess Oliver Wilson was underestimated, or he just got fortunate. My prediction: Incorrect.
Match 12: Jim Furyk/Kenny Perry (USA) beat Padraig Harrington/Robert Karlsson (EUR). My prediction: Incorrect.
Match 13: Boo Weekley/J.B. Holmes (USA) beat Lee Westwood/Sören Hansen (EUR). My prediction: Incorrect.
Match 14: Ben Curtis/Steve Stricker halved the match with Sergio Garcia/Paul Casey. My prediction: Incorrect. I thought Sergio would play slightly better.
Match 15: Kenny Perry/Steve Stricker (USA) lost to Ian Poulter/Graeme McDowell (EUR). My prediction: Incorrect. It was probably slightly too optimistic.
Match 16: Phil Mickelson/Hunter Mahan halved the match with Henrik Stenson/Robert Karlsson. My prediction: Correct.
MY PREDICTIONS: 2/8 correct (25%)
It seems like this Match Play format is fairly difficult to predict the outcomes.
Also, the Americans are maintaining their lead going into the final day, and they have a 95% chance of winning the cup, because they stayed strong all week. Also, playing in singles is their strength; they play better than the Europeans there. So they’ll win the cup as long as they don’t screw up really badly.
Match 9: Ian Poulter/Justin Rose (EUR) beat Stewart Cink/Chad Campbell (USA). My prediction: Correct.
Match 10: Justin Leonard/Hunter Mahan (USA) halved the match with Miguel A. Jimenez/Graeme McDowell (EUR). My prediction: Incorrect.
Match 11: Phil Mickelson/Anthony Kim (USA) lost to Henrik Stenson/Oliver Wilson (EUR). Okay, I guess Oliver Wilson was underestimated, or he just got fortunate. My prediction: Incorrect.
Match 12: Jim Furyk/Kenny Perry (USA) beat Padraig Harrington/Robert Karlsson (EUR). My prediction: Incorrect.
Match 13: Boo Weekley/J.B. Holmes (USA) beat Lee Westwood/Sören Hansen (EUR). My prediction: Incorrect.
Match 14: Ben Curtis/Steve Stricker halved the match with Sergio Garcia/Paul Casey. My prediction: Incorrect. I thought Sergio would play slightly better.
Match 15: Kenny Perry/Steve Stricker (USA) lost to Ian Poulter/Graeme McDowell (EUR). My prediction: Incorrect. It was probably slightly too optimistic.
Match 16: Phil Mickelson/Hunter Mahan halved the match with Henrik Stenson/Robert Karlsson. My prediction: Correct.

Here are my predictions for the Sunday singles matches. Once again, American team members are on the left side while European team members are on the right side.
1. Anthony Kim vs. Sergio Garcia: Although Sergio has a near-perfect Ryder Cup record, he isn’t at his best this week, so this match will probably be tied. Prediction: Match halved.
2. Hunter Mahan vs. Paul Casey: Since Hunter Mahan is playing so well this week, I’m going with him. Prediction: USA wins 2UP.
3. Justin Leonard vs. Robert Karlsson: This match is tough to decide who’ll win, so I’ll go with a halved match. Predicton: Match halved.
4. Phil Mickelson vs. Justin Rose: Phil Mickelson, the world’s second best player, is the obvious choice. Since Justin Rose is also competing well, this’ll be a close match. Prediction: USA wins 1UP.
5. Kenny Perry vs. Henrik Stenson: Kenny Perry has played very well this week, but Henrik Stenson is the master of Match Play format, having won the Accenture Match Play in 2007, and 3rd place finish this year. Prediction: Europe wins 2UP.
6. Boo Weekley vs. Oliver Wilson: Okay, Oliver, you got lucky today, but you won’t be so lucky tomorrow. Go BOOOOOOOOOOO Weekley! Prediction: USA wins 2UP.
7. J.B. Holmes vs. Soren Hansen: Another match tough to decide, but it’ll more likely be J.B. Holmes who wins, since he has monstrous drives. Prediction: USA wins 1UP.
8. Jim Furyk vs. Miguel Angel Jiminez: Jim Furyk has 1.5 points so far at this Ryder Cup while Jiminez has 0.5. Prediction: USA wins 1UP.
9. Stewart Cink vs. Graeme McDowell: Both of them played well this week, but Stewart Cink has a better singles record. Cink finished runner-up to Tiger at the Accenture Match Play. Prediction: USA wins 2UP.
10. Steve Stricker vs. Ian Poulter: Ian Poulter as been playing perfectly this Ryder Cup, so this match goes to him. Prediction: Europe wins 2UP.
11. Ben Curtis vs. Lee Westwood: Ben Curtis is no match for Lee Westwood’s excellent Ryder Cup record. Prediction: Europe wins 2UP.
12. Chad Campbell vs. Padraig Harrington: This match probably goes to the three-time major winner, Padraig Harrington. Prediction: Europe wins 1UP.
Predicted Final Standings:
Team USA: 16 points.
Team Europe: 12 points.
1. Anthony Kim vs. Sergio Garcia: Although Sergio has a near-perfect Ryder Cup record, he isn’t at his best this week, so this match will probably be tied. Prediction: Match halved.
