What is your favorite Genesis song?
The band, not the 16-bit Sega system (though that could be a topic in itself!)
I don't know why I've been compelled to ask people this question at random lately but within our circle I asked Pinback and his answer was "Man on the Corner" which re-awakened shit in my memories since forgotten like listening to a deep Devo track I had forgotten. Excellent song imo.
My personal favorite is "In Too Deep". I first heard it at the waterpark as a kid.. then later that year scored the Invisible Touch album at Kmart via grandma haha.

I looked up their 10 most popular songs
to respond to you and I just figured out that I'm not a fan, however later Peter Gabriel stuff is pretty good.

Hm, favorite Genesis song.....
Well, I don't have a favorite but Dance On A Volcano would make the top five list.

I enjoy these Genesis songs.
Man on the Corner

Abacab
In the Air Tonight
These are pop songs that I still like anyway. I think these are all Genesis songs?
Land of Confusion
Invisible Touch
These Genesis songs will cause me to physically recoil and try to leave the area where it is being played.
I Can't Dance
Tonight, Tonight, Tonight
I Can't Dance, Benny and the Jets and Sympathy for the Devil may be the three worst songs in the history of music.

That's my thing. Gabriel accomplished so much more greatness after he left the band, it kinda rendered Genesis obsolete for me. It's like Sting in reverse.raecoffey wrote: Sun Feb 26, 2023 2:01 pm As for Peter Gabriel my favorite![]()

Re: What is your favorite Genesis song?
Yeah that's too nice of a song for me to get into lol. As far as his older stuff I'm more of a "Games Without Frontiers" guy. I really enjoyed his "Sledgehammer" and "Big Time" singles as a kid, but I can't enjoy those now as they just feel too silly. "Shock the Monkey" is a life-long favorite song of mine though.raecoffey wrote: Sun Feb 26, 2023 2:01 pm As for Peter Gabriel my favorite![]()

Interesting. This is a reason I started this thread. I didn't even know they had albums that went back to the mid-70s! Much different vibe here, but I will check it out some more.
All good picks!Ice Cream Jonsey wrote: Sun Feb 26, 2023 2:21 pm I enjoy these Genesis songs.

Yes, Invisible Touch and Land of Confusion are both Genesis. I also can't STAND "I can't dance" as well. "Tonight, tonight" is OK but not something I'd go out of my way to listen to and most likely will see if there is something better playing on another channel when it comes on over the radio. I mainly just like the keyboard stuff on that song.
I also completely agree with your last statement. I don't really like anything by Elton John but "Benny and the Jets" is probably one of the most annoying songs he ever wrote. I like a lot of Rolling Stones songs, but "Sympathy for the Devil" has some of the dumbest lyrics and one of the lamest guitar solos in a rock song ever made.

Re: What is your favorite Genesis song?
Are you referring to cover versions of Benny and Sympathy? Because Benny and the Jets is an Elton John song, and while there are some covers, neither Wikipedia.nor YouTube shows one by Genesis. As for Sympathy For the Devil„ that is a Rolling Stones Song and I don't find anyone's cover version.Ice Cream Jonsey wrote: Sun Feb 26, 2023 2:21 pm I Can't Dance, Benny and the Jets and Sympathy For tje Devil may be the three worst songs in the history of music.
And if you're referring to other people's songs for the worst one, there is one much worse than Sympathy: the Billboard #1 hit, Rick Dees" Disco Duck.

Sympathy for the Devil is one of the greatest songs in history. What is wrong with you people? Its lyrics are the opposite of dumb. I'm not a huge Stones fan, but come on.

And Benny and the Jets is the worst song in the world for the same thing. It has the worst tempo.
I'll get to Tdarcos's post soon.

Re: What is your favorite Genesis song?
Jonsey, any reason why you had to post a message with the same line repeated 300 times? I mean, I think 5 or 6 postings would have been enough, the additional 10,000 were excessive. Really, posting, say, as many as a dozen might hàve worked to get your point across - if anything could - but posing the same thing over and over for the next 100.000 lines is just too much.
