chris wrote:The problem as I see it is that people are too goddamn self-centered. "Oh wah wah wah, I'm only one guy, and my vote doesn't count". The problem is that nearly half of the country believes this, so something like 100 million votes do NOT get cast. A single vote may not make a difference, but 100 million sure as hell do. THINK ABOUT THE BIGGER PICTURE PEOPLE.
This is a childish, unrealistic, unanalytical view of the topic. One vote does NOT count. Whether one prefaces that statement with "wah wah wah" or not does not make it any less true. Look at the numbers. It's an immutable fact.

I'm sure there were far more than 600 people in Florida who would have voted for Gore had they gotten off their asses and actually done it. Had they not convinced themselves that "Gore will win anyway, so I don't need to vote", the country would be spiraling downhill like it is under Dubya's "leadership".
Yes, and if a frog had wings, it wouldn't bump its ass a-hoppin', Chris. "If 600 more people" had done it, then yes, it might have changed things. My statement wasn't that "600 votes don't count". 600 votes are statistically significant. ONE vote is not.

It's such a simple concept, and one that so many people, with great jingoistic fervor, refuse to understand.

I think you meant "wouldn't" right sooooo.
I'm confused, are you saying things would be better under Gore?

That bag of shit was just interested in telling everyone how to run there lives while his wife sat at home drinking nail polish. Gore was the perfect candidate for you pussies. Boring, do nothing, champion "FAMILY VALUES" and stick his finger up Clintons ass while al Qaeda has free reign to blow up every embassy, ship and trade tower they want. So when the liberals are in office the economy is always better cause it doesnt cost anything to sit back with your dick in your hand. Unless you subscribe to those internet porn pages like Pinback.

I just want the Democrat people to admit that the only reason they are voting Democrat is cause they are just concerned about themfucking selves and interest rate on their house. I thought Republicans were the money whores, but I think much different after I asked everyone I know for the reasons they want Kerry in office.

Hey Pincheese, 600 IS insignificant out 50,000,000 is .0012%. There are 2,000 people at the chicken factory, so why should I work? I'm insigificant. I asked shift manager "Pops" Henderson why I should bother working and told me to go fuck myself and get back to work.

Can't argue with that. I'm sold!

I am voting Democrat this term because I am concerned with the house I am getting as soon as it is financially possible for me to do so. Although it was Bush who got the interest rate down to a level so low people thought we were one of those made-up countries for a little while there.

Wait, what? Oh, right -- I'm voting Democrat (well, maybe Nader) because I don't like anti-intellectual, sniggering little maggot fascists. Whoops. The keys are like right next to each other.

Whatever, all you maggots vote for Solomen Grundy. When your kid comes home and they are teaching taliban and crazy sand negro language arts in school I'll applaud you for your "tolerance"!

The ratio of 600 to 50M is irrelevant. We're talking about state elections here. 600 to 1M is NOT irrelevant.

This is why poor people (or at least poor white people) are stupid. Back when I figured I'd be rich and successful I voted (well, mentally voted since for most of that time I was underage and for all of that time I was a lazy slug) Republican because I thought I'd have money I wouldnn't want taxed. Now I just wish I had free health insurance.

As far as whether or not your vote "counts", Pinback is absolutely 100% correct, but democracy depends on a sufficiently large number of people not realizing this, or else going out and voting anyway.

In a democratic voting system with a sufficiently large number of voters as to render the single vote insignificant, there are two primary ways of effecting change:

Way #1: Mobilize voters (plural). If you can convince 1,000 people to vote one way over the other, NOW you are making a significant change. (Notice, however, that once you have convinced the 1,000 people to vote, your own vote is still meaningless.)

Way #2: Demobilize voters. This is what I do. If I can convince enough people to NOT vote, then the value of a single vote will rise in inverse proportion. My ultimate plan is to prove to everyone in Colorado that voting is pointless, keeping them all at home on voting day. Then I will roll up to the deserted high school gymnasium, get in that booth, and make the entire decision my damn self.

Luckily for me, judging from the lack of interest in your BBS. . . you don't have a shot in hell of pulling this off.

And ironically enough, if .0012% more people had voted in Florida back in 2000, the last 4 years would have been VERY different. To say that a "statistically insignificant" number of votes can't make a difference is shortsighted.

Jesus Christ, if you're going to take shots, at least try to code the damn thing properly. The above might be the most malformed post on this BBS since... well, since Lysander last logged in.

Prince Phillip has been quoted as saying he would like to come back as a virus and wipe out most of the population. Ted Filippe J. Suckmonger has a like statement. Hell there are a lot of poeple I could do without. There were 5 on my drive to work this morning alone, but I know that I am on the wrong end of the stick to let it all happen. Population reduction of about 80% is what is desired.

I don't care who you are, but there is somebody in society you look down upon. Either for economic, political, or social reason, you look down upon somebody somewhere. Now place yourself at the top of that pyramid. You are one of the richest people on the planet. That puts a whole lot of people below you. Absolute power corrupts absolutly. Orwell and Huxley were on the fringes of that structure and that is what they wrote about in Animal Farm, 1984 and Brave New World. They knew these people in control and saw what they were doing.

I don't understand how everybody can look at what is going on around us and not even mull it over that things are turning worse. Just read some of the commentaries on www.kitco.com and you will see how messed up our financial status is. Go to www.theinternationalforecaster.com and get the sample issue and read it.

I would say that it hasn't gotten here yet vs. being postponed. The coutner strike I spoke of would be on a large scale, the EMMINENT threat that the news keeps reporting is coming.
With more and more people waking up and becoming informed about things like 9-11 and The Madrid Bombing, where most of Spain believes it was the government, the conditions are not optimal due to too much resistance to drop martial law on the people. So I guess the Madrid bombings and the peoples actions afterward do constitute a postponement.

Whoa! Those people ought to know better than to piss you off, especially considering what you're packing, heh heh heh.
