ICJ's mission to get a Warlords cocktail thread

Post by Ice Cream Jonsey »

This is it, the holy grail of arcade games. I will detail my plan to get one. Last one I saw available was on eBay from someone in Iowa (I wonder if that is the one that Jizaboz's friend got, if he got it recently?)

Keeping in mind that I had one once that did not work and I sold it when I moved, which was a terrible decision. Nnnnngh!

It's a fun game! I used to play the Atari version a lot but the arcade version is so much better. Cool sounds.

I am going to admit that pickings are slim on this one.

What makes Warlords (cocktail version!) such a great game, nobody asked? I'll tell you. It's a 4 player game that everyone can participate in. I also have memories of my dad taking us to his friend's home when we were kids and many people, adults and children, playing the 2600 version which had 4-controller (paddle) support. I want this thing in my freaking house.

I hear you bro. Totally understandable after playing it!

A couple of my “holy grails” are still..

Funhouse
Reactor

The latter seems completely unattainable. Still can’t even get a lead on an affordable Funhouse.

I want to say that prok in Florida had some Reactors, but yeah, that one is rare and nobody wants to sell it.

Funhouse has a very similar playfield to Tron: Legacy for what that is worth (without Rudy there, natch). I kind of regret selling Funhouse but to get it in good shape was too much for me.

Well, I wrote a guy in Iowa about the one he is selling. It looks mint. If this happens I'll be selling Mappy to create room. I think this is a private URL but he listed it on FB too:

Soooooooooooo I bought it.

I will say that the shipping company gives the best updates of anything ever.

Here is it's path so far. It did seem to go east before going west. It's in Nebraska now! I assume. "NB" is not the abbreviation for Nebraska.

That's awesome, looking forward to the pics. The one and only arcade I will ever own will be a MS Pac Man Cocktail. There's one at this fish and chips restaurant here, all lonely and unplugged due to COVID, I so very much want to make them an offer on it.

If it works and it is relatively clean and it has a real CRT in it I would put it at $600. Might be worth more to them if it's making them money. Which, unplugged, it would seem not to be. But $600 for that is not an insulting offer.

Glad yr getting the Warlords, icj! It is a fun game with cool sounds. I never seem to have enough people over to warrant many 4-player games, but I wouldn't pass one up for a good price.

On the Ms Pac-Man Cocktail.. about 3 years ago I paid 700$ for one with a brand new (restored) Wells Gardner CRT monitor, great cosmetic condition, and all-original. To get it to act right though (no random resets and bullshit) I had to replace the fuses and fuse-holders. Me and another guy also went completely over the board to replace any old capacitors, sockets, and install a high-score save kit (about 90$) which allows me to save scores, play Pac-Man, Ms Pac-Man, Pac Plus (All normal or fast mode) and Pengu all on original hardware with no emulation.

Standup Pac-Man machines typically go for a couple hundred dollars less than cocktails.

It's here! The delivery truck broke down. So I had to go get it in Commerce City. I'll post pics soon.

Getting the power cord loose, I had to cut some zip ties with my swiss army knife. Long story short, I stabbed myself in the knee.

The worst arcade accidents happen when I try to do this stuff myself. Centipede almost breaking leg, Mr. Do! crashing down stairs, zapped from the Tempest monitor, the door for the JAMMA cab falling on my toe resulting in the loss of a toenail and now this. A stabbing. A stabbing!

Let's see pics of your swiss army knife please. I've been a fan of those since Boy Scouts (lawsuit pending) but haven't invested in one for years. My favorite ones had the saw blade, I wish I had one of those right now actually.

Look, I bled for arcade games and I feel the rest of you have written me off as per the Microsoft thread?

I did not! I should have gotten something, shouldn't I?

The wound is almost healed. It's going to leave a giant scar I think.
