My (imaginary) right foot

Post by Tdarcos »

I am lying down in bed. My right leg is bent to the left and my right foot is holding up my left leg. About half way down my left thigh I can feel the right foot holding up my left leg. My left foot is in a boot, and so my right foot is too. My right foot has toes I can wiggle. I think since the brain is not receiving signals it is expecting so it is taking the last things it did feel, or perhaps it is mimicking my left foot.

It is absolutely amazing to realize all of this is phantom feelings. It is just plain weird.

Now my right leg is sitting up, bent, ant it's standing on my right foot. My toes feel cool.

I wondered when the phantom feelings were going to creep in. That concept has always been fascinating to me for some reason.

My right foot is tingling like it fell asleep. Otherwise it's simply sitting there in a boot, just like my left foot.

Again, my right leg is "under" my left leg, my left leg sitting on top of my right foot. When I move my stump up, I feel my foot turn up, both on my right leg and on the lump under my left leg.

When this sort of thing happens, I am reminded of Lawrence Fishburne's words in The Matrix: "What is real? How do you define real? If you're talking about what you can feel, what you can smell, what you can taste and see, then real is simply, electrical signals interpreted by your brain."

True, unless you are a follower of Fox News, in which case, reality is what they say it is, regardless of whether the evidence says otherwise.
