Flack (no, not you Flack, Amazon's)

Post by Tdarcos »

As the title explained, this thread is about Flack, and not our valued member Flack, but the British series Flack, which is currently showing on Amazon Prime Video.

The show is about a London-based Public Relations firm and four women who work there as, well, public relations flacks. Their job is to clean up their client's messes, screw ups and disasters.

The first episode opens with Robyn (played very well by Anna Paquin) trying to revive a naked man who has apparently had a heart attack. Her client, who is also naked (but claims he isn't gay) picked up the other guy (whom Robyn is trying to revive) so they could have a party in the client's hotel room, snorting from a big bowl of coke.

She is able to revive him, and she talks him into keeping his mouth shut by letting him stay the night and enjoy the use of the room (and room service) that her client paid for, plus a bribe she paid him, while moving the client to another room (after she confiscated the remaining baggie of coke.) As she leaves to go home, she snorts some of the coke that was left over on the counter.

Waking up the next morning, as she has apparently crashed on the couch at her sister's place, where additional drama ensues. Her sister's daughter (probably about six-years-old) discovers the baggie of, ahem, "white powder" that Robyn had confiscated from her client, and was playing with it. Robyn tries to retrieve it back, explaining she needs her "sugar" for the coffee she's having. The child tries to help, by throwing the baggie of "sugar" into her coffee.

Robyn has regular bouts of melancholy which she self-medicates with coke and booze (again, not the beverage kind of Coke), plus regular Narcotics Anonymous meetings. Robin is actually an American who followed her boss from the New York office of their PR firm, to work in the London office, which also allowed Robyn to get a fresh start after other problems in her life made her decide to move.

At one point Robyn has sex with one of her other clients, but is worried that her contraceptive pills might not be protecting her. She also claims she's trying to have a baby with her boyfriend. One of her associates confronts her about the ridiculousness of the situation, how she's taking the pill but wants to get pregnant.

The show is sometimes funny, poignant, thoughtful and very entertaining. (Much like our Flack.) If you have Prime I recommend checking it out.

Flack is available on Amazon Prime Video. Here's the trailer from YouTube:
