Wikipedia wrote: [The Yes album] Union sold approximately 1.5 million copies worldwide, and peaked at number 7 in the UK and number 15 in the US charts.
YES has been around since the 70's (releasing 21 studio albums - they aren't indy.
Now that's unfair. I know who Yes is ("Owner of a Lonely Heart", "Roundabout") but exactly which of these records says it's from Yes? From what I see, exactly zero. That's like saying how The Beatles were probably the largest band in the word but none of the records shown are a record by the Beatles, none is a cover of a Beatles record, and none is even done in the style of The Beatles! Or saying how The Beatles are the largest indy band in existence (since Apple Records was founded by them, technically they were not with a major label), but none of the records shown as examples here, again, have anything to with them.
RetroRomper wrote:The Zazen Boys are arguably a band in the "indie rock" genre but considering they played at the opening of a Japanese Apple Store, have sold about 300,000+ albums, its arguable if they are actually an indie band.

The name of the thread is "songs that SHOULD be on your iPod," not ones that will be.
Well, I Can See For Miles** that the name of the records you gave are subtitled "songs that WILL NEVER be on my iPod/mp3 player."

*Yeah, I know that's from The Who, not Yes.

The Zazen Boys are arguably a band in the "indie rock" genre but considering they played at the opening of a Japanese Apple Store, have sold about 300,000+ albums, its arguable if they are actually an indie band.

I agree. I now understand why these are indy bands. Because the general public finds their music unlistenable, and thus they would only be of interest to the tiny minority of people who like this sort of music. Although, sometimes I suspect calling the noises they generate music is a bit too charitable.

I'm afraid neither of those songs will make it to my iPod.

OK, but for the most part everyone just starts posting music from guys who can't fucking play.

So here you go. A favor to you. The ten best Hall and Oates songs none of you schizzos have ever heard of. (Pretend I linked to the thread I am gonna make in a second.)

I don't mind obscure music. There was a six month stretch or so that several friends of mine and all (all reviewers for the same heavy metal website) had "out-obscured" each other to the point where after we had stopped listening to anything released on a major label, we had stopped listening to anything recorded in English. After about a month of listening to unsigned Swedish death metal bands and Italian "improv noise" releases, I snapped.

After that I was finally able to disassociate popularity and obscurity from enjoyability. Being on a major label doesn't necessarily make a band good (or bad), just as much as being obscure doesn't. I gladly welcome the sharing of song links, as long as they're being shared because they're good music and not just because they're obscure ... 'cuz if we're just doing "obscure" and not "good", I have a crate of Italian improv noise CDs that I can't get rid of that I would gladly share. :)

Hey, if this is the thread where we share whatever weird music we're listening to, I'll give it a try!

Is it OK if some of us do the same thing? I am going to take your silence as an "OK" to go ahead. I will post great music that nobody here has ever heard of.

Because you're gonna say "that sucks" and then list ten other bands nobody's ever heard of.

Okay, but you realize you're being "brings down a music discussion by mentioning a bunch of bands nobody has heard of, or ever will hear of guy", right?
