My top list of films, good and bad

I have had a hard time deciding which of these is #1 so I'll list my personal top favorites in alphabetical order. These are, as I see it the creme de la creme, the best films I have watched. There are many other very good films, but these are the ones I could really watch repeatedly.

Andromeda Strain (1972)
Barbarians at the Gate
Bound
Hellfighters
The Matrix
The Medusa Touch
Serial
Slapshot
Starship Troopers
Used Cars

The reason I have a problem is I'd probably have trouble deciding between Matrix, Medusa and Hellfighters for #1.

Some others that were good or were technically great works but didn't quite make the cut. I'd still recommend any of them.

2001: A Space Odyssey
Airport
August Rush
Boogie Nights
Burn Hollywood Burn: The Alan Smithee Story
Casino
Citizen Kane
The Competition
The Green Mile
Mr. Holland's Opus
The Usual Suspects
What Things May Come

There is one really good film, Tropic Thunder, that unfortunately only works once, I tried watching it a second time and it wasn't funny any more even though it was gut-busting hilarious the first time.

There are a few films that are on my "weird list" that while I found them either strange in a likable way or technically interesting, they were strange enough that I can't really say if they were good or bad, but they are worth seeing. I can only think of one right now.

Vanilla Sky

Worst movies, and I can list them from worst suckyist to less sucky.

1. Murder on the Orient Express
2. Fargo
3. Fanny and Alexander*
4. Crash (the 1995 one, not the one that won the Academy award)
5. Existenz
6. The Groove Tube

Because of popular demand, my explanation for why I dislike Fargo is explained in Topic 6306

* The only saving grace for this otherwise horrible film was I took away one really great quote supposedly from a small child, who is asked "Why does one lie?" and he answered, "One lies to gain an advantage."
