Cool yeah, please share. I know that most no one is on my wave either but it's fun to share.

You certainly would not be alone with that opinion. It's an odd an probably awful style that just vibes with me for whatever reason. It's soothing to me; sort of like sitting in a cafeteria mainly filled with the elderly and elevator music lightly in the background as you hear plates clang and conversations become a wave of confusion in the distance as you eat bland food and take it all in.

However I will clarify while I can tolerate people playing bluegrass live for a bit, I despise 99.5% of country (an exception for me would be some old Beck and Dinosaur Jr that def has a country vibe), easy listening is usually lame as shit, and "jazz" is a bit of a broad spectrum that is hit or miss for me. My girlfriend dislikes lounge music, my friends dislike it, I'm pretty sure most everyone else here dislikes it and I'm certainly not here to try to change any ones mind on the subject.

However, as I come across new stuff I'll post it here for anyone who does dig it! I talked about Takako Mamiya a bit before somewhere else with others here but for the sake of continuing with another example, here is a favorite vinyl I spent too much money to buy from Japan:

Takako Mamiya is an interesting person because this is the only material she ever recorded. She completely disappeared shortly after the release and no one knows why. I hope to think it's because she ran away with someone really financially stable that took care of her.

I thoughr it was interesting. There's nothing wrong with so called "easy listening" or more perjoratively as "elevator music", the ur-example being Stan Getz's version of The Girl From Ipanema. People rag on this genre of music because of its banality, despite the fact, that is its purpose.

It is used as a calming device where people might be bored or stressed such as in an elevator (packed in a wood-grain or polished sterl box with strangers, wirh nothing to do.but stare vacantly at the floor indicator)„ on hold (as you wait on the phome for hours until some low-wage drone from Southeast Asia or India who barely speaks English), or working in an office (when people actually went into an office and routinely packed like sardines into cubicles) to calm the employees (so they don't realize that they do not have to spend their life in a cotporate job that slowly grinds them imto drones and quit, possibly en masse , or get the idea to end the torture by packing heat and putting a few slugs in their manager or one (or more) of the execitives).

Depressive Lounge Style

I've been into old "lounge" (some people would say elevator) style music since discovering Martin Denny about 10 years ago.

I heard this song over local college radio 3 days ago and had to look up the shownotes to see wtf is this magic? A happy and familiar tune with the most sad lyrics and deep emotions.. "the shadow of your smile".

Oh how I remember..
