In no context would she be working on the docks.

For example: Elliot Lurie's inspiration for writing the song Brandy was his high school sweetheart who was named Randy. He changed it from Randy to Brandy because he liked the way it sounded better. Everything in the song is symbolic of that time in his life, it has nothing to do with sea travel or maritime law.

Let's get real here. The eponymous character Brandy is a barmaid in a seafaring town. Today's shipping is done with semi-automated loading and unloading equipment of 20- and 40-foot containers of a Panamax class freighter (or was until the Panama Canal opened a new set of locks in 2016 to allow even bigger ships) where I presume the crew is 4-6 people, mostly running a computer-controlled, GPS navigated monster freighter, and inspecting the cargo for shift or damage. The type of job that can easily be done by women or men. Requires brains, possibly advanced education more than strength.

The lyrics of [i]Brandy[/i] reference the time of sailing ships, with actual sails, where hard men did hard work, and when those hard men got into port after months at sea they looked for soft women. So it might be sexist.
