Of course they shouldn't have been fired for it. You can even hear in the clip, if you actually listen to the whole thing instead of the edited versions the news plays, the guy who wasn't doing the voice knew they were going down a road they shouldn't have been going down. He was trying to get out of it. He absolutely knew this was trouble. I have no doubts that those guys regret doing it. They should simply have been able to apologize and take their fake suspension/vacation and be done with it.

I have zero problem with what they said but I do have two nitpicks with it...

1 - They're dumb. Have some friggin sense. We all know what a politically correct horseshit country we've become. Particularly in the world of radio where all comedy has been banished from the airwaves because it might offend somebody.

I thought it was hilarious. I laughed out loud when I heard it. I have no problem it, but you gotta know where you are. You're not on satellite. You're on regular radio. You're on ESPN Radio. ESPN which is owned by Disney. There are millions of morons who do nothing but listen to radio shows in hopes of hearing somebody slip up so they can get them fired. And all radio stations have proven that they will never, ever, ever, ever protect their talent. It's sad, but you gotta be smart and keep yourself our of the crosshairs these days.

2 - It's a sports show. It's not a comedy show. If this Doufus and Tiddlywink's Wakka Wakka Morning Zoo, maybe they would've skated. But it's a sports show. Regular Joe Schmoe is driving to work wanting to hear them break down some guy's 40 time and talk about how LeBron is going to beat San Antonio's defense. They're not tuning in to hear cringe comedy. Know your role, dummies.

What kills me in all these stories is how the news reports it. These are just some dudes doing a radio show in Atlanta. It's not a national radio show. There's no reason why this should be national news. They take something that nobody heard and make sure everybody hears it just to get these guys fired. The vast majority of people who are offended at this ONLY heard it on the news. Yet they're mad at the radio guys? The radio guys did it once and moved on. The news has played it a thousand times. Why isn't their outrage at the news? If what they said is so horrible, STOP PLAYING IT.

And I love how meaningless comedy is the only thing that news douchebags feel they have right to editorialize about. They'll play these clips and then actually talk about how horrible and terrible it is. Yet they don't do that on any other story. "More soldiers died in Afghanistan today after a road side bombing. 39 people shot in Chicago this weekend. Coming up next we've got the lady from the Prancersize video!" But when something like this happens? "Two foul mouthed horrible disgusting excuses for human beings made a tasteless joke that nobody should ever be forced to hear. Let's listen to the tape. - Oh, that is just pathetic. These jerks should be hung up by their bootstraps!!! Let's listen one more time. - Oh what assholes!!!! The news isn't under FCC rules so I can say that! These guys are assholes! Let's listen to these insensitive assholes again. - Oh, that really gets my goat!!"

Our society is really, really stupid.

Yeah, the "assumption" is that this is a well-received radio station, that these guys must have been a big deal to be on in the AM.... no. Atlanta is a big city. I am sure I can name the Denver equivalent. All stations have guys like this in all cities.

Anyway, I am sure that Steve Gleason blinked once in appreciation of it.

(See, you can pull a 9.2 or a 0.0 and get away with it.)

Maybe we should send this radio station one of the Don Rogers Shows? See if we can be the new mayhem in the AM?

As a radio expert, I guarantee you their ratings were not that good.

If you can scream "(n-word which we're not allowed to say here)" for four hours a day and pull a 9.2, your job is safe. (See: every single Rush ripoff on AM radio everywhere in the country.)

No, they should not have been fired for this lame bit because it was offensive.

Yes, they should have been fired for this lame bit because it was probably the best thing they'd done in years.

And I got hippies saying I shouldn't even be on at 3 AM.

But that's a different topic, sorry.

Sigh.

That's the bit that got three horrible sports radio guys in Atlanta fired.

I will say that they should not have lost their jobs for doing that bit.

I will also say that if that is anything to go on, they are so unfunny, so painfully unfunny that they definitely should have lost their jobs.

But overall, I am really sick of the thing in this country where someone says something you don't like and you try to get them fired. First Amendment, yo.
