What are you guys doing for Valentine's Day

I'll admit to not having seen The Hunger Games, but from what I've read, yeah, unless you just started menstruating or bought your first tube of Clearasil, skip it and go right to Battle Royale. And Battle Royale II. And if you just want to see dead kids, watch Beware! Children At Play and skip to the last 15 minutes.

Yeah! The unsteady-cam was horrible!

It's a PG-13 Battle Royale adopted from a truly godawful book. We will all be better off pretending that whole trilogy (sigh, yes it exists) and the eventual sequels just do not exist.

My last comment on this abomination of a movie is that the fight scenes had the most laughable use of sHakEy cAm!!!! I have ever seen. Makes the Two Towers look like when Stile hung himself.

It is a pretty dumb premise.

Funny, just watched it again last night.

I was urged to read the books and never made it past chapter one. The logic kinda insulted me.

I could not picture any kind of scenario where it would take seventy five years for the poor downtrodden masses to rebel against the elite government that's been taking children from them every year, once a year. I can't imagine that happening more than one time before there is a mass attack on the Capitol city.

Underneath all that it's a teenage love story, which also puts it out of credibility bounds. It kind of cements the target audience for the movies (teenage girls with disposable income; see the Twilight series)

Did you see THG? Tell me how terrible it is. Please.
I dunno how THG is. I know Battle Royale was sort of shocking in its unabashed brutality towards kids. I don't remember if it was good, just that it was memorable.

I received an email when this stupid, shitty movie came out. I work near a movie theater. We were told that traffic and parking might be difficult because this movie was going to premiere that Thursday or Friday.

People were AMPED UP about this.

At 22 minutes in, the protagonist (Jennifer Lawrence) has a flashback about the boy doing the games with her (Josh Hutcherson). It shows Hutcherson throwing bread at some pigs. Lawrence is apparently hungry. The flashback ends. She gets no bread.

In what the screenplay writer and director think is compelling storytelling, at the 40 minute mark (after those two have spent more time together) the film goes back to the same flashback. But it is a few seconds longer.

Hutcherson's character throws out some bread.

This is the most insulting and stupid fucking thing I have ever seen in a movie, and anyone who thought this movie was good or even competent should donate their eyes to science.
