I am so glad I am divorced for this very reason! I never would have heard the end of converting the room into my manly playground. She hated the idea of it every time I tried to talk about even getting a cabinet one day. My live-in girlfriend is actually excited for me about it, and wants to help clear out all the crap that we've stored in there for years.

Now, just to be clear -- have you picked it up yet?

No, not yet. My goal is by the end of August. The machine isn't going anywhere in the meantime and there just isn't room for it until I clean out the unused bedroom. It's the machine I mentioned earlier though that I brought back to life in a half-drunken state at the guy's party... I know it's in pretty good shape.

Congrats on the score! Free cabinets are always kind of liberating because ... well, I never felt bad about putting a few bucks into one getting it to work!

Today after sharing the discussion here about the value of Bosconian in respects to gutting a machine to build a MAME cab with my older co-worker that has the Bosconian cabinet, he said "Well, you know where it is... come pick it up whenever you want it!" Free! Yes!

All I need to do is clean out my back room I just kind of hoard er I mean store in there to put it in. Kind of stoked about that.. I plan on making it a "Dream Arcade Bar" room.

The machine will need some cleaning up plus some work to make sure it reliably plays, though I don't think the latter will take much more than electrical cleaner like I spray into my old guitar switches to clean the ancient gunk out of them. I want to make it as like new again as possible, but I'm still keeping my eye out for any cheap or free cabinet with completely worthless or non-working guts to turn into a MAME cab.

I figure it's a challenging game with many levels.. and I like anything space-related. I'll definitely get some use out of it. Who cares if it isn't very popular.

I can just see myself in that room now with a cold beer sitting on the bar nearby, yelling "A lie! A lie!" (Alert! Alert!) at the cabinet. I'm completely stoked just thinking about owning my first arcade cabinet after all these years of wanting one.
