sysex and mental anguish

by AArdvark » Thu Mar 18, 2010 5:50 pm

So I spent my hard earned nine dollars on a USB to MIDI adapter. Thinks I, why I could dump all my patches into the PC, actually edit them easily and put them back into the keyboard. Wow, like the future and everything. Well, the keyboard is too old. (Korg poly 800 II) Maybe I'm too old. The manual swears up and down that it can do a sysex dump. The actual hardware aint talking, tho. If I play notes and stuff I can see the information being transmitted to the computer. Supposedly if I press various keys on the PC I can play notes on the keyboard but that hasn't happened yet.
I have the feeling that the nine bucks wasn't well spent.
I love the sounds that that old thing can make.

I have the tape cassette interface which works well enough when I run the backup files through this netbook. cant make any changes tho.
