Congratulations, Padraig Harrington, on your two fake majors, and your fake PGA Player of the Year award, you fuck.

MID-FOURTH-ROUND UPDATE!!!!!, or "The Worst Thing Ever!!!"

With six holes to go, Sergio and Padraig are in first and second place, respectively, separated by a shot! This is bad enough, but what makes it truly horrible is that for Tiger to have ANY shot at the Player of the Year award now... SERGIO MUST WIN!

So I am placed in the most terrible spot imaginable. I must CHOOSE between my allegiance to Tiger, and my utter disgust at Sergio!

Which way will I go???

Well...

...I guess this is the first and last time you will ever hear me say these words....

...but....

GO SERGIO!!?!?!?!!!?!!??!!!!?!?!?!??!?!?!?

Untouchable. That being said, the third round is over, so let's get on with the THIRD ROUND UPDATE which goes like this:

ULTRA-DISASTER!!!!!

This couldn't possibly have gone worse! Let's take a look at the contestants and see how they're attempting to destroy my life!

ANTHONY KIM is tied for 39th, 11 shots back, so the one saving grace is that he is not gonna win this shit. Suck it, Anthony Kim! LIKELIHOOD: 1, SEVERITY: 9, TOTAL: 9

LEFTY is tied for 13th, six shots back. Not toooooooo worried about this, but it's been done before, so, LIKELIHOOD: 3, SEVERITY: 8, TOTAL: 24.

SERGIO GARCIA is tied for FOURTH, three FUCKING shots back. This is making me nauseous even to type! To think he's this close! Sure, seeing him fail after getting such a taste would be terribly sweet, but this is TOO close! LIKELIHOOD: 9, SEVERITY: 6, TOTAL: 54.

But the real bad news is:

PADRAIG HARRINGTON shot an unbelievable 66 in the third round, after bitching all yesterday that he was just tooooo tired and tooooo distracted after winning the British, and that he just didn't have it this week. Know what? FUCK YOU, Paddy. He currently stands tied with Sergio in fourth, three shots back. If he repeats his third round performance in the upcoming fourth round, the whole year is a disaster. LIKELIHOOD: 9, SEVERITY: 10+, TOTAL: WORST THING TO EVER HAPPEN!!!!!!!!

STAY TUNED! PLEASE DIE, ALL GOLFERS I HAVE MENTIONED IN THIS POST!

P.S. Rory Sabbatini!

If someone brought better content before the end of 2008, would you admit this? Or do you feel this is an inscalable height, like that mountain on Mimas?

By the way, I'd like to take this "time-out" just to say that these Major updates I've provided this year have definitely been the best, most entertaining thing on the entire BBS for the year 2008!

Let's all show some appreciation to me, for really bringing the high-quality content, higher by far than anyone else on the board.

Excellent job, myself, and our most heartfelt thanks!

DAY THREE UPDATE
---------------------

Most of today was rained out, so not much to report. As of the time of play was called:

Sergio Garcia had finished only one hole, and stood tied for eighth, three shots back.

Padraig Harrington was through 8 holes, and tied for 28th, six back.

Phil Mickelson was through 5 holes and stands tied for 17th, four shots back.

In the one bright spot of the shortened day, Anthony Kim is +3 on his round, through 11 holes, and stands tied for 42nd, nine shots back. Way to go, A-K!

That's it for today. Hopefully we can get this thing done tomorrow, so everyone can lose like they're supposed to!

BONUS "POSITIVE" UPDATE

Hey, hey. Let's not let negativity overcome us on this most hallowed of weeks on the Tour. Golf is a wonderful game, and we should show our appreciation and admiration for those who play the game expertly! So this weekend, if you happen to flip the channel to the 2008 PGA Championship, why not raise high a delicious beverage in a toast, and cheer, cheer, cheer these fine, fine players!

J.B. Holmes (1): A long hitter and good guy, this could be his chance to take his career to the next level!

Ben Curtis (T2): Previous surprise major winner, maybe he can thrill us again with another shocker!

Justin Rose (T2): Was thought to be the next young star ten years ago, never quite got there. Could this be the week he fulfills that earlier promise? Let's hope so!

David Toms (T5): Previous PGA Championship winner and all around good guy, who won't be rootin' for this former LSU Tiger??

Henrik Stenson (T5): Solid, steady European player, now has his chance to conquer ground in the US!

Aaron Baddeley (T7): The ladies love him, fashion designers cringe, but "Badds" is set to show the world he's not just a pretty face in horrible clothing!

Sean O'Hair (T7): Escaped an emotionally abusive father and is poised and ready to show the world (and his father) that he can win on the biggest stage in the sport!

Angel Cabrera (T7): The Big Cat! Another surprise previous major winner, but he's purring right along and ready to pounce on Major #2!

Paul Goydos (T14): Who could forget his showdown at the Players this year, showing the whole world that you can be a pro golfer but still be a down-to-earth, funny, nice guy! Go Go Goydos!

Boo Weekley (T14): The country bumpkin who says he'd rather fish than golf, how can you not pull for this down-home cowpoke?

Brandt Snedeker (T14): Made his name known in the Masters, and is back for more face time! Hopefully lots of it!

Steve Elkington (T21): Elk! The best interview on the Jim Rome show! A great, hilarious guy who everyone should definitely root for!

There ya go. HUZZAH, I say to all these wonderful people! Play your best, men! We here at Jolt Country BBS are actively -- you might say vociferously -- behind you!

2008 PGA Championship DISASTER UPDATE!!!!!!!!!

The second round is virtually over, so let's check our masters of disaster to see how the four most loathesome men in golf fared today!

For each douche, I will at the end rate them (on a 0-10 scale) on 1) likelihood of following through on disaster, and 2) how terrible it would be if the disaster occurred. By multiplying these together, each douche will receive an overall DISASTER RATING of 0-100. Then you can mark these numbers on your wall in crayon. Right on the wall. Use different color crayons for each douche.

DISASTER DOUCHE #1: Padraig Harrington -- To be fair, Paddy actually isn't a bad guy, unlike the other three assholes on this list. However, for the purposes of this week, he is the worst enemy I have ever had in my life, including Hitler, Satan, and HITLERSATAN, who is an invention of my own mind! And what the FUCK did I tell you? When he finished his round, he was tied for 57th, and I said, watch this, cuz he's gonna go up and up and up. And now, at the end of the day? TIED FOR 26th for fuck's sake. Six shots back at +5, but since only one guy (J. B. "John" Holmes) is at -1, and he blows, it's really like being five shots back, which is nothing. NOTHING! Well, maybe not nothing. It's probably something. But not so much something that you can say "yeah, he definitely won't win." LIKELIHOOD RATING: 3 - SEVERITY RATING: 10 (would win the award) - OVERALL DISASTER RATING: 30.

DISASTER DOUCHE #2: Anthony Kim -- I am happy to report that Kimmie struggled to a five over 75 today to put him even with Paddy at +5, tied for 26th. He gets a higher likelihood rating than Paddy though because he is becoming known for unbelievable hot streaks. LIKELIHOOD RATING: 5 - SEVERITY RATING: 9 - OVERALL DISASTER RATING: 45.

DISASTER DOUCHE #3: Sergio Garcia -- Leads the douche pack after a 73, putting him at +2, tied for 7th, three shots back. Has never won a major, and I am torn because the prospect of him choking away another close one is almost worth the risk of him getting this close. Were he to win, not the end of the world as I still think he'd need at least one more win, but still, seeing him hold any kind of important trophy is enough to make any serious golf fan gag up his Cheez-Its. LIKELIHOOD RATING: 8 - SEVERITY RATING: 6 - OVERALL DISASTER RATING: 48.

DISASTER DOUCHE #4: LEFTY -- Copied Sergio's 73, putting him tied for 14th, four strokes back. In some ways, him winning would be the worst of all possible outcomes, but for some strange reason, I'd actually rather see him win that Anthony Kim, who is just a despicable pile of garbage. Still, though, it would be completely godawful in every conceivable way. LIKELIHOOD RATING: 8 - SEVERITY RATING: 8 - OVERALL DISASTER RATING: 64

So there you have it. Leading into round three, please BOO these worthless stanknuggets in the following order:

FUCK YOU LEFTY (64)
FUCKIO GARCIA (48)
FUCKONY KIM (45)
Paddy (30)

John.

Shortly after joining the Tour, he changed his "please refer to me as" name to "J. B."

by Ice Cream Jonsey » Fri Aug 08, 2008 12:05 pm

J.B. Holmes, eh? What does the J stand for?

2008 PGA Championship, One-and-a-Half Round Update
----------------------------------------------------------

DISASTER!!

Well, we have some good news, but overall, so far this is a total disaster. Let's have SOME good news though, before we start unveiling the horrors which have transpired thusfar in this godforsaken golf tournament:

VIJAY SINGH: With one hole to go in his second round, he's tied for 110th at 9 over. STATUS: BOOM, OUTTA HERE.

TREVOR IMMELMAN: After two rounds, tied for 137th at 13 over. STATUS: BOOM, OUTTA HERE.

KENNY PERRY: Withdrew after a 79 for a "Lasik-related eye injury". Or he just knew that the course had beaten him and didn't want to embarrass himself further. STATUS: BOOM, OUTTA HERE.

So, there's some decent news. But now let's get to the bad news, which when taken cumulatively, may be the worst news ever delivered since language was invented!

PADRAIG HARRINGTON: After taking an early LEAD in the first round, stumbled a bit, and after two rounds is currently tied for 57th at +5. While this isn't the DISASTER it was earlier on, I suspect that by the end of the day, the "57" will get a lot lower just by other players running into the teeth of the course, and while I'd like to say +5 is bordering on out-of-it, by the end of the day it probably won't be. STATUS: WAS HUGE DISASTER, NOW MILD DISASTER.

SERGIO GARCIA: I once again FORGOT Sergio on the PRE-GAME ROUNDUP. He has one win for the year, but it was the Players Championship, which while not quite a major, probably counts for at least two regular tour wins. So if he can nab this one, he could probably win the Player of the Year award with one more win the rest of the year. Has yet to start his second round, but as of this writing currently stands TIED FOR SECOND at -1, two shots back of the leader, J.B. Holmes, who is almost definitely going to drop a couple shots coming in. This could be the week Sergio drops the label as the best player never to win a major, which would be a: STATUS: DISASTER!!

PHIL MICKELSON: After dropping two shots early, came back the rest of the day, and right now, before his second round, is TIED FOR EIGHT, a mere three shots back (and see above, that's likely to shrink soon). He's playing STRONG, he's feeling STRONG, and he is not actually left-handed, which is your GOLF TRIVIA OF THE DAY. STATUS: DISASTER!!!

ANTHONY KIM: Same deal as Phil! Tied 8th! Right there! One of these fuckers is going to seal the deal! You people must not be BOOING enough! Why aren't you BOOING, people!?? HELP ME OUT HERE!!!! STATUS: AUGUGHHH!!!!

The best we can hope for is that Sergio, Phil, and KIMMIE all come out, hear our BOOs, and wilt emotionally just enough to tank. God, please! Don't let this DISASTER continue!!!!

AUGH!!

The chick played in last week's tournament for players who weren't good enough to play in the Firestone tournament (which is only for the upper-echelon).

She flirted with making the cut on 73, but then blew up on Friday and was, yet again, bounced from the proceedings. Oh well. BETTER LUCK NEXT TIME, Michelle Wie!

Hey wasn't there a chick playing in this one?

Here we are, the week of the year's last "major", and hopefully the last "major" that Tiger will miss. YOU DO UNDERSTAND THAT I AM QUOTING "MAJOR" IN THESE THREADS BECAUSE WITHOUT TIGER IT IS RIDICULOUS TO CALL IT THAT, RIGHT? Sweet.

This is the last chance anyone will have to challenge Tiger's claim to the PGA Player of the Year award, which will be the most amazing award ever since he only played in six tournaments, about ten fewer than any of the closest competitors.

The only way this week would NOT decide the Player of the Year is if someone managed to win all four "playoff" events leading to the FedEx Cup, but I seriously doubt even that would do it, because as much as commissioner Tim Finchem wants us to believe the FedEx Cup and the "playoffs" are really important, all of the players, and most golf fans realize it's a joke. A joke! A lame joke at that! So, barring some ridiculous run of success in the playoffs, accompanied by some even more ridiculous political voting, this last "major" is the last real threat to Tiger's taking of the award.

With that in mind, let's take a look at the remaining challengers, and their chances at taking down the MAN:

Anthony Kim (2 wins, 0 majors) -- After looking like the Next Tiger Woods for a stretch of a month or so, the last couple weeks have seen him choke away a win in the Canadian Open, and being a non-factor at the Firestone. To win the award, he would have to win the PGA, and add at least one more regular Tour victory to his record. Are the last couple of weeks just a blip on the radar, or is he maybe not the straight-to-the-top wunderkind we've (excluding the author) all been waiting for since Tiger came on the scene 12 years ago? We'll find out. THREAT LEVEL: MEDIUM-HIGH

Phil Mickelson (2 wins, 0 majors) -- After at least two months of playing like crap, he was poised to win the Firestone this week, when he gagged over the last four holes and finished two shots back. He's ranked as the #2 player in the world, but it's hard to think he'll remain that way for much longer until he turns his game around. That being said, he's always a threat, and he'll probably win at least one more regular event this year, so if he wins the PGA this week, it's almost a done deal. THREAT LEVEL: HIGH (ALSO: FUCK YOU LEFTY)

Vijay Singh (1 win, 0 majors) -- After not having won since early last year, he finally got his putter to work this week, and won. They've been saying all year, he's hitting the ball great, but just can't putt. If he can putt, he's still a huge threat. That being said, even if he won this week, he'd have to win at least two more events to be in the hunt. One win in 1.5 years makes three in the next month or two seem unlikely. THREAT LEVEL: LOW

Trevor Immelman (1 win, 1 major) -- If he wins this week, he wins the award. That being said, since his absurd Masters win, he hasn't done anything anywhere. He is the captain of the Blown His Wad Squad. THREAT LEVEL: EXTREMELY LOW

Padraig Harrington (1 win, 1 major) -- Same deal as Trevvie, except Paddy can actually play. Won the British, but that's a completely different style of golf than they play on Tour the rest of the year, so a win there doesn't mean it will translate. Still, he is a two-time major winner, which means he's got the game to pull it off. THREAT LEVEL: MEDIUM

Kenny Perry (3 wins, 0 majors) -- Another in the "win and you're in" club for this week. But he skipped the last major, and his 3 wins came in relatively weak, non-Tiger fields, so they're less impressive than they look. That said, still having a heck of a year, and anything can happen. THREAT LEVEL: MEDIUM-LOW

Okay? That's it. As long as none of these guys wins, Tiger's got it in the bag. Let's all root against them!! BOOOOO!!!!
