You feel good about yourself now? When you're on the goddamn air for a six-hour telecast, having to ad-lib and come up with something, ANYTHING to say, you're bound to say something which you probably wish you had back.

I'll tell you, I read the comments out of context, and the race issue didn't even occur to me. I wasn't aware "lynch" only applies to black people. I just thought it meant, whack him, take him out, make him dead. Ha ha ha, it's just a joke folks.

So does that make me one of the people so dumb you'd never hire them?

Get real. Why don't you and Roy S. Johnson go lick each other all over.
hmmm response EAGERLY anticipated.

I blame the sport of gold. A six hour telecast with maybe 15 minutes of action. They ought to give the golfers some more stuff to carry around with them, like guns, batons, hangman's nooses, burning crosses, white she-- ah, sheeeeeeee-it.

Half is drubbing, half is OMG Jesus plz don't use the word lynch even near a black guy, wtf...

It's a weird dichotomy- whites can say, without rancor, and being absolutely right, that they did not do anything personally to black people. Blacks, on the other hand, can say without any exaggeration that they know someone firsthand who did receive racial prejudice, and that they have been a victim to it because of that. If maybe not because of someone's kid who was raised that way and having that guy's job in their hands, then because of this awful shit that that guy's parents, who dealt with that shit firsthand, taught that kid who freaked out at a lynching comment. Let's not forget that this shit ended about 60 years ago, a time in which anyone's parents/grandparents could tell you horror stories.

Come on, I didn't grow up in a world in which women were oppressed, but the people who raised me did. There's some shit instilled in my mind that I'll never forget, even if I never experienced it myself.

Yeah, her apology is good enough, and her job isn't necessarily called for, but shit, I wouldn't hire someone that stupid.

Roy S. Johnson Is A Fucking Idiot

by Sports Pinner » Tue Jan 08, 2008 7:23 pm

Since what we do here is bag on sports columnists, I'll do one.

The big, top-of-Yahoo news story today is that Kelly Tilghman, golf commentator for The Golf Channel, said on-air during Friday's broadcast of the first tournament of the year that the young players on tour "should lynch [Tiger Woods] in a back alley."

Without knowing anything else about it, obviously, this means that Kelly Tilghman hates all black people and wants them to be killed! Just ask Roy S. Johnson, whose article the Yahoo link leads to, and whose article begins this way:
Roy S. Johnson wrote: I have not seen the clip, nor do I know the context of the remarks.
Well then, by all means, give us your conclusions about what should be done about this, based on admittedly not knowing anything about it!
Roy S. Johnson wrote: It would be a travesty if Tilghman is allowed to broadcast the next event for the Golf Channel.

...

At minimum, a suspension is in order.

...

Tilghman has reportedly reached out to Woods to apologize. Here's hoping, at least for the moment -- until the Golf Channel makes its statement -- that he does not accept the call. Or the apology.
And...

(I swear I am not making this up, and yes, I'm aware that it's a typo, but it's just too perfect not to reproduce here in its entirety.)
Roy S. Johnson wrote: Tolerance at any level cannot be tolerated.
Nice job, Roy.

If you ever get around to it, though, you can click this link to get some more context and a reality-check about Kelly's comment, which while certainly ill-advised, was still pretty goddamn benign, particularly when you consider that she and Tiger are friends, and like each other very much.

Dumbass.
