Desperately needs to be remade.
One thing:
we've all seen the gif of the guy's head exploding. It's truly one of the best scenes in all of movie history.
What is lost is... that guy seriously put together a nuanced and convincing performance beforehand! This guy is a TERRIFIC character actor! We have some movie makers here. Well, two. I implore them both:
Sign the exploding head guy from Scanners. What if we were living in a world where James Earl Jones's likeness blew up in a B movie and the Scanners guy was in Roots and Star Wars and Field of Dreams? Pretty crazy, right? I believe we are in the mirror dimension of that. Or a dimension, anyway, where the Scanners guy didn't get the respect he deserved.
He's awesome. He'd steal this movie even if his head didn't explode like an over-ripe watermelon strapped to the belly of a Muslim at a dynamite store.
