Ice Cream Jonsey's band Beaver - Mellow Gold

Hmm. Let's say Mellow Gold is ICJ's band Beaver. In both cases it's really a solid musical endeavour, but what I'd really like is a bit more recent and updated. A few years back there was an online petition and a collection fund going around trying to sway Robb's opinion on the matter. Although it was a very good idea, the $2200 collection goal was just a little out of our budget.

A compilation from my old band was named "Mutations." We put two things out on cassettes, but that was the first one we had a CD burner for.

Then, a couple years later, Beck named one of his albums "Mutations."

Fun facts!

I can't believe Beck has that many albums, someone should have stopped him years ago.

Casual Observer - Stereopathetic Soul Manure

Casual Observer is like Stereopathetic Soul Manure. He's mostly out of the way and forgettable, but if you pay attention to the posts, he's actually pretty scary. That album's mostly terrible.

Beck sucks, he can't sing worth a damn.

Worm - Guero

It's more of the same from our favorite college student, much like Guero was pretty much a rehashing of the spirit of Odelay. Worm's crossing his fingers that I'll throw some points his way for consistency, but what I'm really looking for is progressive innovation. Worm needs to start reading more or break dancing if he wants me to start paying more attention.

Pinback - Midnite Vultures

Like Midnite Vultures, Ben is the funniest one of the whole bunch. And he has a busier horn section. Every listen to Ben reveals another complex layer of handclaps or synthesizer bleeps you never really noticed before.

Ice Cream Jonsey - Mutuations

Beck's follow-up to the Grammy-winning Odelay was a bit more introspective, and it certainly wasn't afraid to have it's sadder moments. Robb doesn't really strike me as a sad/introspective kind of dude. He is, however, working a lot lately, and it's pretty clear that everybody worked really hard on Mutuations. All the musicians are in top form, and "Sing it Again" is easily in the Top 3 of Beck's Best Songs. While Robb's certainly not spending his time at work writing a brilliant alternative pop album, but the man's putting energy into something, so there.
