Boy, for an old-ass movie in black and white which I have been resisting seeing for approximately 33 years now, Casablanca contains an extremely noticeable lack of suckitude.
It's about this guy, right? Who runs this bar? In Casablanca? Then these Nazis are all like, "Urr!" and then this chick shows up, and Sam plays that song again? And the chick and the guy are like "grmmmah!!" and then this other dude gets on a plane and stuff? It was sweet, dude!
Those who resist watching old B&W movies, hey, I understand where you're coming from. However, Casablanca features a script so rife with dry wit and sarcasm that it continues to remain "modern" to this day. The acting is also superb, and the cinematography achieves things which just cannot be done in color. I know I sound like those old fuddy-duddies who always say "there are things you can do with B&W which you can't do with color", but it's very true, and you need only watch this film to understand it.
It's funny, it's emotional, it's exceptionally well paced and well shot, and everyone in the world who hasn't seen it (which I am guessing is the exact group of people who regularly visit this BBS) should go see it immediately, if for no other reason that to hear all those famous lines in context. They seem far less goofy that way, believe me.
Four old-ass, black & white stars!
(Oh, and Ghost World gets ***. I've heard that the message is "it's okay to be different!" but I instead got the message "immature bratty bitches need to grow the fuck up". But it was well done and generally enjoyable.)
