That's what you get. I have power and influence over places and events that you cannot even comprehend.

As the proud owner of the Cheers Complete First Season DVD, I can tell you that Cliff was not mentioned in the opening credits, and only briefly appeared in a small subset of episodes.

Khan probably knew baout him too though. also I'm drunk and ALSO, jonsey sucks. hehheh

Oh but hold on, ALSO I am playing $5/$10 poker at paradise right now. Even tho DURNK i am playing GOOD. losing money tho, but playing GOOD. Strong. STRONG.

Ah. Also, apparently, he never encountered Chekov on the show, as apparently Chekov wasn't depicted as part of the crew during that season.

But I mention that only for information. The movie works beautifully with Khan *having* met him, and the use of Chekov there as opposed to Sulu was the better decision.

by pinback » Sat Aug 16, 2003 10:46 pm

The company line is, all the knowledge Khan had about things that happened while he was in "hypersleep", he gained while perusing the NCC-1701's databases while he had some time.

"I have many questions." - Khan, _Space Seed_

This has lots of uses in real life, as well.

by Lazy Bondo » Sat Aug 16, 2003 10:41 pm

For that matter, how did he even know it if it was a "Klingon proverb"? He took over in 1996, and I may have been to busy watching Star Trek to notice, but I don't remember any Klingons showing up on Earth. 'Course, I don't remember Kahn taking over the world either, but that's just me being assanine again. I, too, liked ST2 vewy vewwy much. The only movie in the entire series that can compare is the sixth one.
Required ROK quote:
Kahn wrote:I'll go around the moon of Petril or dive into Parditian's FLAMES, before I give him up.

what is the real quote. . . i hadn't paid enough attention to know that.
No, no -- you were fine. It was Khan who was wrong. The vengeance bit is a human line, not a Klingon one. For all his superior intellect, he managed to cock up the origin of what he was spouting.

by Vitriola » Sat Aug 16, 2003 10:00 pm

I've always found ST V, I think, or maybe VI, to be the best in lines. Then again, I was high at the time. I think I'll go check simplyscripts.com and regale you all with the wisdom.

I don't like to lose.

I cannot and will not subscribe to your interpretation of this event.

Can I cook, or can't I?

THIS is Ceti Alpha V.

Nooo, you can't get awaaaay.

I shall avenge you.

Well, then this is your big chance to get away from it all.

Respect the cock.

"Captian! There be WHALES here!"

"Scotty, you dick! That was 'the Voyage Home" I need a quote from 'The Wrath of Kahn'!

"I Canna Doooo it, captian! I do'n have the power!"

"Mister Spock, man the conn, I have to go kick a particular engineer's ass."

"Captian, may I point out that this whole post is illogical."

"just keep on quoting regulations, Mister Savvik. I saw Look Whose Talking' three times."

"Kepten, The Romulans are looking for nuclear wessels"

Jethro Tull wrote:"he's aksing me, he's asking me and i shall have him"
Wrong. And shame on you, because this is one of the greatest lines in the movie:

"He TASKS me. He TASKS me, and I shall have him."

by Jethro tull » Sat Aug 16, 2003 8:59 pm

I occasionally get my quotes wrong too, but then I don't have a host of people loyal to me for my "superior intellect."

Jethro Tull wrote:"there's a klingon proverb that revenge is a dish best served cold. . . it is very cold in space". . .
There was always something that bugged me about that line, but then I realized what it was last night. Khan's first in command is loyal to him because of his superior intellect. I can buy space arrogance: even though they were 'defeated' by Kirk initially, and even though they got sent to a planet which became a dead world, the guy honestly believed that Khan was the smartest guy in the galaxy. They did live like kings for a while there on earth.

But then Khan lets loose that "Klingon proverb" bit. Hey, Hatestien, hate to break it to you, but that line is as human as shopping malls and toll-free calls. Dumb fucker. I occasionally get my quotes wrong too, but then I don't have a host of people loyal to me for my "superior intellect."

"i have been and always have been your friend". . .
That's the line that always gets me. Ooooh boy. Oooh boy-oboy-oboy. Got real dusty out here in the foothills last night, funnily enough.

(Also, welcome to the BBS!)

by Jethro Tull » Sat Aug 16, 2003 8:40 pm

"all hands abondon ship", "it was the best of times it was the wors to times. . . . truely the best of times", "romulan ale. . " " i got a border ship that brings me a case now and then", "heal thyself", "i. . did nothing . . except get caught with my britches down. . Savic, keep right on quoting those. .

sorry, just had to mention a few more lines.

This was the only star trek movie i really liked. My parents always and still watch this constantly. I mostly enjoy this movie and the original series if i'm stoned.

Cheers.

my favorite trek movie

by Jethro Tull » Sat Aug 16, 2003 8:31 pm

Gotta agree, Jonsey. In fact, the fact that you said that is enough for me to forget about the mediumwell steak and accept you as a man of culture. I, myself admit to knowing almost every word of this movie. "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. . . or the one", "of course the ship is yours", "you lied", "i exaggerated", "now we have minutes instead of hours", "he exibits 2 dimintional thinking", "he's aksing me, he's asking me and i shall have him", "there's a klingon proverb that revenge is a dish best served cold. . . it is very cold in space". . . boom. . . "i have been and always have been your friend". . . "of all those who i have known, he was the most. . . human"

At least Kirstie Alley was hot in this. . . her thinnist performance i can remember.

Cheers,
Eric

WoK is significant both for being by far the best Star Trek movie (or, really, anything) to be created in the long, checkered history of the franchise, but also features one of the greatest scores in movie history, and was a very STRONG influence on my own musical development. Even to this day, lots of my stuff is tinged with Horner's work on this film, if you listen close enough.

Do I "love" the movie? No, probably not. I do like it a great deal, though.
