The Fountain just... it was the film he'd always wanted to make, the first film he wanted to make, and you can tell it's a labor of love, but you can also tell that it WAS the first movie he wanted to make because he was very young when he came up with the idea.
It's charming, but immature.
One cannot help wonder what the movie would have been if it hadn't been shitcanned halfway through so he had to re-make it with about 1/10th of the original money.
(I made up "1/10th", but it was a lot less.)
