Well, it's been a pretty nice Sunday. Killed the lock screen ads on my new fire tablet by doing a bunch of sudo-get-shell commands I saw on the XDA forums. I may not understand them all but I can follow directions. Then I got my original Xbox controller working again on the Magnavox PC downstairs. Just a matter of using the right version drivers and getting them to play nice in the sandbox with Win7. After that I rewired the strat for the new improved humbucker/single/ humbucker pick plate I ordered at Christmas. Now it's time for a pint.

Can anyone here recommend a single malt scotch? Say in the hundred dollar range? This drinking thing looks like a lot of fun and I want to give it a try for a week.

Glenlivet 12yr is my calibration scale for scotch. Also not THAT expensive. So you can try that and decide if you want something more "peaty" or "fruity" or whatever the fuck.

I like Ardbeg and Laphroaig, a bottle of those are probably 50-70 each and well worth it.

Thank you THE and ICJ! Fuck it, I'm buying a bottle of each, I'm a Scotch drinker now, that's my new thing: drinking scotch.

Also, I'm claiming this avatar until Tdarcos decides to use it. The new Billy Mays is this avatar plus drinking scotch.

Ok, let me walk this back a bit...I don't care for the taste of alcohol and when I tried to become a cognac drinker a while back all that happened was I dumped an $80 bottle of cognac and the remnants of the glass down the sink after taking one sip of it. So I'm going back to this avatar, just temporarily until I find something I like, and I'm picking up a bottle of Glenlivet 12yr like THE recommended this weekend. Will report back here with updates as the situation unfolds. Thank you for your help.

If you don't like the taste of alcohol, why are you starting with scotch? Why not start with a six pack of hard lemonade or, perhaps the sissiest of all drinks, flavored vodka?

You're right Flack, Billy is the hugest liar. He aped Paul's "i hate the taste of alcohol" bullshit and even worse I'm by sure he drinks like a fish. Scotch is the worst alcohol to start with except maybe Jaeger shots. Nobody starts learning about alcohol by buying $100 bottles of scotch. Billy is again being disengenuous.

Have you ever seen the people who buy that stuff? I said I wanted to try a nice scotch, not completely give up on life.

I want to get something to relax to, many adults choose alcohol for this, I enjoy Archer, Archer looks incredibly refreshed after drinking scotch, I want to feel that refreshed, Glengoolie isn't a real brand (I checked) which brought me to my post here the other day.

The last time I had anything to drink was probably 3 or 4 years ago, I was helping a friend out in his yard and he offered me a 12 oz can of light beer, I drank that followed up by one more shortly thereafter because it was really hot that day and I became sloppy, falling over drunk from 2 beers in 2 hours.

The time before that, I can't even remember how many years before, I decided to purchase a bottle of cognac. I remembered growing up and hearing references to cognac in tv and movies and the stuff sounded magical, like all of your wildest dreams and a slice of heaven in one perfect elixir. Well to me it tasted like battery acid so down the drain it went.

$100 was my upper limit for 1 bottle which isn't unreasonable based on my research. If I spend less than $60 and I don't enjoy it then I will just convince myself that I wasted my money on rotgut, pour it out, and then go out and buy the more expensive bottle anyways. By purchasing the more expensive bottle initially, I am saving the money I would have wasted on the cheap stuff.
