Fun with Tracfone

Post by Tdarcos » Sun May 17, 2020 12:48 pm

Since I can't get my old Android TracFone phone to charge, maybe the problem is the phone. So I decided to buy another one. Did you know they actually sell flip phones? $4.95. I'm not that desperate.

Oh, refurbished android $9.95. Hey, at that price the charger alone is worth that! Sorry, out of stock.

Another refurbished Android, $14.95. That's also a reasonable price. Sorry, out of stock.

Why don't they disable showing out of stock items? Or do like Amazon; there is a check box that allows you to tell it to "include out of stock items." Amazon knows customers almost always order for immediate use, they're usually not interested in something that might be available in the future.

Found one: Alcatel Raven™ LTE® (A574BL) $19.95, Fedex 2-day free shipping, and since it does not say refurbished or reconditioned or re-anything, I figure it's new. Okay. Tax is $1.24 which is about right, probably 5 1/2 or 6%, total is $21.19. Just doing the numbers n my head, that's spot-on for 6% on $19.95.

Go to check out and provde address and credit card information.

"We are sorry, but there is a problem with the transaction, please try again."

Well, I'm wondering if maybe I forgot to have automatic payments made in case I can't pay (like when I had no electronic devices), and the account is in suspense. So I check the website for the Citi Double Cash Mastercard. Not only is there no problem, in fact, I have $189.43 in cash rewards (1% on purchasses, 1% when the bill is paid). That's about $25 or $26 and change a month paying my room bill of $1340 a month.

Also, the charge from TracFone has already posted. This is strange.

So anyway, I go back and check the information. I had my magnifying glass out. All 16 digits of the credit card are right. Check the CVV and...

I typed the wrong last digit. I made the mistake. I correct it. I get a confirmation and a transaction number. So, either this new charger included with the phone, presumably will charge the new phone and will also charge the old one or I switch to the new phone.

Either way, in two days I will hopefully have solved my problem.

One of the things the TracFone website says on some data plans is that "tethering is not permitted."

Huh? Pay-by-the-megabyte data plans and the customer isn't supposed to tether? "What the fuck kind of bullshit is this?" If TracFone was offering unlimited free data, this might make sense. But they're not; theyre selling data, and their best price is $9 a gigabyte.

At those prices I'd encourage people to invite their friends, hook up the family, whatever you want. If someone is connecting another device and using it on your metered connection, I'd tell them to hook up all the devices they want, and don't forget where the porn sites are. (Porn can become very bandwidth eating.)

When you charge for data usage, you should not care how the customer uses it, or whether they tether another device, like I do when I order porn for my brother, the prudes here block porn sites.

Metered data providers should take the advice sung by former porn star Andrea True, about tethering: "How do you like it? How do you like it? More, more, more!"
