Bard's Tale on Steam

Post by Flack »

Has anyone else picked this up yet?

For $14.99 you get a remastered version of the original game, along with Bard's Tale II and III when completed.

On one hand, there are so many other fun games out there that I'm not sure I want to spend fifteen bucks on an old one. On the other hand, it sure would be nice to replay these games with updated graphics and a modern interface!

The graphics look like a mobile game. This looks worse than the original...

Not sure which version that is. Here's the original Apple II version.

That looks beautiful! Now go to youtube and watch some gameplay footage of the remastered version. It looks like an android game.

They did the same thing with Sid Meier's Pirates!. Updated the graphics and killed the coolness factor. The new version of B T looks like a PlayStore app

I got it for backing BT4. I solved the first one so I only worked around with the remaster for a sec. #2 and #3 are coming later but should be included in the price. It's a good experience so far.

Apparently we became a community that just fucken hates everything. All righty.

ANyway, you're all wrong. The game desperately needed some enhancements to make it playable for long stretches in 2018. You won't regret getting it Flack and you're right that the graphics are a step up from many versions of the original.

Apparently they added a "save anywhere" feature which surely even this group of curmudgeons would agree is worth $15.

Unfair! In another thread I said Doom 4 is the best game of all time. I could have said "they ruined Doom" instead.

Is that a shot? Are you taking a shot at me?

Is that a shot across the -- bow, is it? Is that a shot across the bow?

BT2 kind of had save anywhere I think. I don't remember if BT3 did. For me, BT2 is the one I might actually try to finish. I have had start/stops on BT2 before. It's a pretty good game.

BT3 changes the gameplay up in various ways. It's the Zork 3 of the Zork games. BT2 is the Zork 2 of Zork games - pretty much more of the same, a satisfying sequel. The third installment's all the new crazy stuff. I have one personal friend that considers BT3 to be his favorite game.

Correct. You have the correct takes on Doom. You know what game I tried to go back to but couldn't BLOOD. I loved Blood. Love it! I got into some sort of permanent run mode when I last played. That one should hold up better than it did.

I've purchased the original trilogy and Dragon Wars so many times I can't even count, I've got shortcuts for all of them on my desktop right now and I'm still going to purchase the remasters because it is The Bard's Tale.

Also, Doom 4 is trash, you probably have Low T if you get any enjoyment out of it.

I just realized after reading my last post that ironically "liking" Doom 4 must be an inside joke around here that I missed. That was sloppy of me, my bad.

This is the first Bard's Tale I ever paid for. I pirated Bard's Tale 1, 2, and 3 on both the Commodore 64 and, later, the PC. A friend of mine bought Bard's Tale Construction Kit when it came out and I made a copy of that, too. Here are the dox I made and used to play Bard's Tale II.

As someone who has never played them:

1. I totally should get the new version, it's still great!
2. Well, it's long been surpassed by (enter game name) but it still might be interesting for learning the history of the genre.
3. Eat a bag of farts, fatty!

Doom 4 is OK. Can we admit as a community that a lot of the appeal of Doom was the fact that nobody had done what it did? Except for Wolf3D. Okay they did it in Wolf3D. But we could "understand" Wolf3D, we could see how that came into existence.

Doom just blew us all away.

Carmack doesn't help when he says dumb shit like a story in a game is like a plot in a porno, "it's expected to be there, but not important." Fuck you. That is not helping. But shooting galleries are fun and Doom 4 looks nice. I don't know why that guy who thinks I blocked him says otherwise.

Let's get back to the Bard's Tale.

They revoked our beta keys for BT4 and said we're getting new keys in 3 days when the game drops.

Nobody answered my question about the Bard's Tale. It's like talking to Spinner in here.
