Which is your favorite wing part?

I feel like we did this before, but whatever. SPIRIT OF KINDNESS.

Drumettes are way easier to eat and have more meat. Flats are annoying, you have to break apart the two bones to get at all of the juicy buffalo goodness. The worst thing ever about getting chicken wings from a new place is opening the take out box and finding only goddamn flats. I can't believe that some wing places are so fucking cheap as to buy only the flat part of the wing.

Flat meat is more tender and juicy. And you don't have to break 'em apart(*), but if you do, you have TWO little bones for dipping goodness, if you're a dipper. Bonus dipping!

(*) Put it in your mouth lengthwise, bite down on the far end, then PULL 'N' SUCK. (**)

(**) The wing, we're talking about.

I know people that refuse to eat chicken wings because they consider the wings to be trash parts, the parts you discard when you buy a chicken. I think it's an old thing.

I don't believe you know people who refuse to eat wings because they are trash parts.

Put 'em on.

My mom, for one. All the times we went out for beers and pub food, no wings. Not once, ever.

Wait. I thought you keep the wings and the legs, and throw away everything else.

Great question. It was right of you to bring this here.

Ben, I want to extend an olive branch. While not Rochester-Buffalo-born, we officially accept you as one of us. Superman wasn't born on Earth, but everyone still considers him an American. Can we come to an agreement on this? Please? I know that it infuriates you that the place many of us grew up have this weird "ownership" of a food that is now everywhere in the country. I want you to have it as well. I want us to be a team here.

So. Drumettes versus flats. I love them both, of course. I got groceries today and there is a chicken wing bar in the deli section of the Safeway I frequent. Someone had picked all the drumettes out, leaving only flats. I didn't mind. I put three flats in a bag and ate them for part of a small lunch when I got home. They could be flats all the time and that would be fine with me.

Do I prefer drumettes? Well..... maybe? But I mean, I guess what I like best is a 50/50 mix. How I also like my races.

Oh, absolutely. We're all big fans of both pieces. If I was served a plate with ONLY flats, I'd be disappointed.

But if I was served a plate with only drumettes, I think I would be more disappointed.

I voted for the flats. It's because we are elite in certain things and very much not elite in other things.

Before I answer, do you mean bone-in or boneless? I've seen Buffalo wings both ways.

Bone-in. Boneless "wings" are chicken nuggets, not wings.

Given that to be the case I made my choice. With my vote for Drumettes the vote is now tied 4-4.

This is a lot closer than I thought! I figured drumettes would notch the clear win. But it's anybody's game!

Flats: cook more evenly, not that hard to eat.

Oooo, I was gonna call it a stunning upset for Flats, but then someone popped in and evened the score.

This is too nerve-wracking!!

We just moved to Ohio. Our closest local pub calls them "drummies" and "flappers".

In other news, we're moving out of Ohio.
