Just had dinner next to Carlos Samtana
Dining with the wife in Sausalito tonight, ended up sitting next to Carlos Santana. I had no idea how loopy that guy is, what the he'll is he on? Kept talking about the tree of life and meditation. The wife and I spent more than someone whose been famous for decades, gotta lock this shit down.

One of my mom's friends dated Santana briefly in the 70s. She said he was the craziest person she had ever met. Seeing as how my mom's friend is the craziest person I've ever met, that's saying something.

Did she have any specific stories of Santana that you recall?

Not really. And 40 years of pain pills and booze have turned her brains to cabbage. It's possible she only listened to a Carlos Santana album once and imagined the whole thing.

Many very talented people have psychological problems. Van Gogh cut his ear off. Hemingway chose to eat his shotgun. Spielberg has a problem with overspending on his films; one time the producers had to bring in George Lucas to "reign in" Spielberg. Lucas has his own set of problems.
One musician was having problems with drugs so bad Keith Richards of The Roilling Stones had to have a talk with him. Keith Richards, the guy known for being a huge recreational drug user. When someone like him comes to tell you you're using too many drugs, you really have problems!

That's interesting. What film was Lucas brought in to reign in Spielberg's overspending on?

I think it was Raiders, I just remember that remark was made about one of his movies.

Re: Just had dinner next to Carlos Samtana
George Lucas co-wrote Indiana Jones almost a decade before the movie was made (Indiana was the name of his dog), personally asked Spielberg to direct it, and co-produced the film -- so it was unlikely he was "brought in" to fix anything.
Also, due to Spielberg's propensity for storyboarding (both on paper and with minatures), Raiders of the Lost Ark came in both ahead of schedule and under budget. The film was budgeted for $20 million (they spent $18) and was scheduled for three months of shooting (they wrapped in 73).
Perhaps you were thinking of a different film?

I said I thought it was Raiders. Point is, I remembered a third-hand story that Spielberg had a serious overspending problem on a movie that Lucas had to come in and supervise.
Different example: James Cameron was so overbudget on Titanic he reportedly gave up his salary to be allowed to finish it. The movie went on to earn over a billion dollars. That's why he was able to make Avatar which was also very successful.

I don't want a different example. I want the example you cited. I am a fan of both Lucas and Spielberg, so I am genuinely curious which movie Lucas was brought in on to "reign in" Spielberg's spending on.
