Do you guys know if there's a way to turn the automatic updates and rebooting off for Windows 10? I am so fucking sick of trying to use my computer on the mid-month Thursday of each month only to find that the assholes at Microsoft took it upon themselves to put untested garbage on my computer and then reset it and THEN require three minutes for my computer to logon because they are too dumb to do whatever needs to be done before login but after the restart.

So, one thing you can do is disable reboots after patches are downloaded and applied. To do this, hit your windows key, type "task scheduler", open that, find the "reboot" task, and disable it. This is the task Windows tries to fire off after updates are applied. You'll keep downloading updates, but they won't be applied until you reboot manually. This is the way I'd recommend doing it.

You can also pause/defer updates by going to settings > update & security > windows update > advanced, and changing the settings there. I don't really recommend doing this because security patches are a good thing, it's just the rebooting part that's a pain.

I have disabled automatic downloads of updates. I now only get a notification that there are updates and I need to confirm their download and installation.

I did this using a policy manager setting I believe? I forgot the details. It's been a couple years. It is possible. Unless you use W10 Home edition or something. With W10 Pro it should work.

Guys, these are fantastic directions on how to accomplish the goals I requested earlier this morning. But we, as a community, forgot one thing. How do we turn these updates off - and make it sexy?

Yeah. They forced a php upgrade on me.

I'm upset with Dreamhost for doing it.
I'm upset with nerds, horrible fucking nerds, that decided the previous way of making SQL calls just couldn't possibly work.

The Microsoft Game Pass site thing is absolutely laughable and broken and I can't even get worked up about it.

Trying to put wget on the work Mac. Of course the most useful program in history isn't on there by default. Thanks, Steve.

I try brew install wget.

And brew has to update itself. I am so fucking sick of installers needing to UPDATE THEMSELVES before they can grab a 32kb program. So it's been about 10 minutes on this piece of shit. What the fuck is brew doing? Why is it so terrible? Why can't they write it so you put a flag there if you want brew to update, otherwise it just gets you the file? Why is everyone that works on Apple's OS so goddamn dumb?

Sitting waiting for this fucking thing to update itself and I see:

==>Pouring openssl@1.1.1.(etc)

Pouring.

"Pouring."

Honestly, everyone involved in this could be lined up and shot twice in the fucking head and it would be too good for them. POURING. OH BREW ASSFUCKS, HOW WONDERFULLY QUIRKY.

I like it. Some SJWs went to the homebrew bugtracker and requested them to change their name because it's offensive to people who don't drink, like Muslims. So "brew" is an offensive and non-inclusive name and should be changed.

They didn't change it. And so I now love brewing and pouring and tapping.

Oh, and to disable auto-updating, export HOMEBREW_NO_AUTO_UPDATE=1 in your shell.

That's hilarious. "Offensive to people that don't drink." Wow. Okay.

People wonder why SJWs get shit on and it's crap like that which gives them a bad name for all the other stuff.

Thanks for the heads-up on the environment variable. I would argue that they should have made it so that you have to turn a flag on to auto-update, but at least they accounted for it.
