I dunno much about it. It almost looks like an indoor wild mouse with tons of theming. Which, hey, if it's not too rough, and the theming is cool, could be good for a laugh.

Does this program support "coaster cam" in which it shows the view of what you'd see (and hear) while riding the coaster?

Since they've had that in at least one game it's conceivably possible to do that here.

Of course. I'll record that when it's done.

Excellent. As a suggestion, if you do another coaster and film it, splice the two videos together - with a few seconds of black video between the two or a screen effect like a wipe between them. Should provide an interesting effect. First, the coaster rolling around the track, then, this is how it looks from the coaster.

That is definitely my plan. Can you recommend a good (free) video editor I can use for this purpose? The program I'm using exports giant AVI files.

I understand the open-source 3D designer Blender supports the creation, and editing, of video. You can create a 3D scene, make some objects move, then render the scene into a video. Or you can edit video. Blender supports AVI Raw (uncompressed) and AVI JPEG compressed formats. It's not extremely bulky at 85 meg and is probably worth looking at.

Personally I always used Microsoft Video Editor as it came with the computer and had a minimal learning curve. Later I bought one of those Humble Bundle packs of 8 or 10 items that included a video editor. Never got around to using it, and I am considering ripping it out by the throat for the unforgivable sin of putting unsolicited popup ads on my desktop for the upgrade to the program, even though it is not running and I probably haven't used it in a year.

I now suspect the ad culprit is Microsoft Visual Studio 2017. I never really studied the ad, just thought it was an adware popup to get me to upgrade some video editing software. If that is the case I'm "gonna pull that ad detonator out of Colonel Stewart's dead fucking hand," err I mean Visual Studio's uninstalled corpse.

Thanks, Tdarcos! Windows doesn't have Movie Maker anymore. It was replaced with "Photos", which is just as good, except all of the features were removed. What a fucking pile of ASS.

At any rate, here was my first shot at it: A video with music, and two sections -- First, off-ride, and second, the first-person view you'd requested, although it looks worse than the first half for some reason. Probably because "Photos" is a fucking pile of ASS!

CHRIST!

I hate to say it, and it hurt less to have my leg amputated than to say this now. I thought you did an outstanding job. The quality of the video - which I know is a function of the program, although you can still claim credit (or is it steal credit?) for it - was breathtaking.

I notice one thing which is the mark of the typical artist, at the end title card you deprecate your own skills (or your skill in using whatever tools you have available) as "not good enough," because nearly every artist thinks (s)he could have done better. Sometimes the dissatisfaction at not doing better - and wanting the chance to make up for it - can cause problems.

In Gerald Weinberg's excellent book The Psychology of Computer Programming, he refers to the "Second System Problem," in which programmers, having worked on a major system, think about all the compromises they had to make, and features they had to cut, to get the first system done, want to make up for it by overloading the second system they work on with every bell and whistle they can think of. Thus, the most dangerous system - in terms of feature creep and potential for errors - a programmer can ever work on is their second. Woe be it to the manager who has a team consisting mostly of people having worked on (only) one major project before.

I didn't realize I'd done it with my second book (Instrument of God) until I ended up with a 768 page door-stopper of a novel, so big it locked up Word Perfect.

Thanks, buddy! I'd ride coasters with you any time! Well, except for at Kentucky Kingdom where the pre-recorded, pre-ride announcements says, and I am not making this up, that all riders must have at least two functioning feet and one functioning hand.

How about I ride the coaster, and just wave at you from the top of the lift hill. Deal?

The best thing about that book is that not much has changed about computing since it was released.

Well, four years after it was published the invented the 5 1/4" floppy, but other than that, pretty much the same.

Yeah, I know. There's been a 25th (or maybe it's 35th) Anniversary edition released. I wianted to get it, and the print version is available for a nosebleed $44.95, but while the Kindle version is $9.95, I can't afford that one either.[*]

If somebody (or some group) was thinking about getting me a book or something for my upcoming birthday, on Nov. 27, well, hint, hint..

[*] Having gotten used to it, I prefer e-books anyway. I have the MySQL 8.0 reference manual as a PDF. It is an "I almost swallowed my tongue" 6,672 pages, which just to print on an inkjet would take 3,336 sheets, weigh probably ten pounds and cost about $150 just to print. On a 10" tatblet which weighs maybe 17oz., with 64 GB of permanent storage I could literally hold tens of thousands of books. With internet connectivity the vast majority of the corpus of English language publications are available, tens of thousands of free books and millions of paid ones.

This is probably on the razor's edge of s violation of the Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990. The "at least one hand" rule might be OK, but the "two foot" rule is suspect unless someone can explain why a roller coasted that holds people at the waist requires both feet to be present. Now, if a medical doctor or engineer knowing the stresses involved had told them, that's one thing, but if they just decided this, it might be as illegal as having a sign reading "whites only" posted at the entrance. (Or the sign Jimmy did not have posted on his Garage in Pulp Fiction but was posted at a coroner or funeral home.)

Since I can't afford a trip to KY - I couldn't afford a trip to a drugstore for a tube of KY jelly, presuming I needed it - that sounds like a great idea. Maybe I should tell you my roller coaster story.

I printed it in Instrument of God but it's more-or-less as my sister told me.

My sister and brother went out to Cedar Point Amusement Park, in Ohio, when they went on vacation together on earth. They rode the toughest, strongest roller coaster there, the Raptor. Now, they’d been crossing the country stopping at amusement parks, and had been on many coasters, but the one they had there made them sick. Really sick. Especially my sister. She was so sick, she was in the ladies’ room next to the coaster, hunched over a commode, puking her guts out into the toilet. But the story here is what happened behind her. Two women come in, one of them escorting the other who was probably her mother or grandmother, very elderly lady. They both are discussing how they had just ridden the coaster my sister had just gotten off of and was providing the toilet with her opinion of its strength.

Well, anyway, the first woman says to her grandmother, "So, did you think I was right about the Raptor?"
"Yeah, I know. You told me I wouldn’t like it, and you were right."
"I don’t think we’re going to want to come back to this amusement park any more in view of the ride we had on the Raptor."
Her grandmother apparently was in agreement. "Yeah, it’s not really fun here any more, the rollercoasters here, especially the Raptor, are just too tame. We need to find even more exciting ones. I’m only 85, I’d like to have some excitement in my life instead of these weak coasters they have here."

After my sister finished emptying her stomach, she - and my brother - spent the rest of the day lying on the beds in their expensive hotel room commiserating how sick that ‘tame’ and ‘weak’ coaster had made them. In effect, they paid for admission to the park, and a whole day’s hotel room rent, to get to ride one roller coaster that made them dreadfully sick. You could say that it was one really expensive coaster ride.

Either that story is fake, or the old bag was being sarcastic.

I'd like to complete (well, start) the Skyliner project eventually. Not sure this is the right time for it, though.
