There are conditions where society demands significant or "high contrast" between some elements to ensure they can be seen. Warning labels are black and white, with minimum font sizes. Look at a container of roach powder or an insecticide spray, and either in black or red, on the back with the instructions, the first fifteen words on that package will be identical:
WARNING: It is a violation of Federal Law to use this product in a manner inconsistent with its labeling.
Contrast is important and what we look at is the significance level of the two contrasting colors. Consider what our society considers its most valuable cargo that is routinely transported 5 days a week, 9 months a year: school children. And what color do they use for School Buses? Bright yellow to stand out and black lettering to contrast.
What is being complained about is that the difference in contrast between the two post message colors is so low it effectively disappears.
