This is a discussion / support forum for the Hugo programming language by Kent Tessman. Hugo is a powerful programming language for making text games / interactive fiction with multimedia support.

2012, in Hugo XYZZY Eligibility

Post by Roody_Yogurt »

The Powers That Be are tallying up the list of eligible games for the 2012 XYZZY Awards ( http://xyzzyawards.org/ ). I just thought I'd make a post here, saying what games are up for nominations (and by whom).

loafingcoyote:
Escape From Ice Station Hippo
The Hugo Clock

ICJ:
Retro-Nemesis

Flack:
Spinning

Marius Müller:
Tales of a Clockwork Boy

Tdarcos:
Teleport Test

Paul Lee:
Tree and Star
World Builder

Personally, I don't have any games up on this list as "Party Arty, Man of La Munchies" was released a little earlier than the other Hugo Open House games, so it was on the 2011 list. Also, my other release of 2012, the Halloween Horror, was previously released in 2011 as the Ecto Horror. Anyhow, I'm a little disappointed that I didn't contribute to Hugo's presence in the 2012 XYZZYs, but I am happy to see others pick up the slack.

Notes about Games Not on the List-
As the notes for loafingcoyote's Super Madball! said that the game wasn't going to be uploaded anytime soon, it was decided that it'd be eligible when it is uploaded.

Likewise, as Tdarcos' Tripkey game calls itself a beta, the XYZZY organizers are not adding it until the year it calls itself a complete game, so Paul, if you just forgot to take off the beta stuff and update the release number, you probably can let them know.

All games in the last Open House will be on the 2013 XYZZY list.

I believe if anyone has more suggestions for the list or concerns about the excluded games, they can bring their concerns here:

It's a shame none of your stuff is eligible considering everything you've done in the last year.

I was wondering if it's possible that you might get a nomination in the "Best Technological Development" category for Roodylib.h? It seems reasonable, since Tads 3.1 won the category last year and Roodylib is a big step toward Hugo 4.

If you are nominated I think they should temporarily change the category name in your honor. I propose: Most Kick-Ass Improvements to an IF Language!
