Subaru 2013 WRX Sti

So, funny story.

Yesterday was my wife's 40th birthday. The day before her birthday I told her straight up, "I have no idea what to get you." This leads to a witty exchange that I will type up later today for my blog, but eventually she tells me that she has already bought my birthday present for me (my birthday is two months away). She eventually reveals that it is the car you see above. It was waiting for me at the dealership.

I went and picked it up last night. Ho-ly shit, this thing is fast. There are faster cars out there, sure, but I don't know if any of them are this much fun to drive. My friend has a 2012 Mustang. It's fast as shit as long as you're going in a straight line. The WRX STi reminds me of a go-cart. A really freakin' fast go-cart.

So far, I love it. It has less bells and whistles than my wife's Honda, but it has a decent rear view mirror I can use to see her.

This car makes me feel like I'm 16 again. Wahoo!

Congrats! The WRX Sti is actually well known for its performance. And it doesn't compare to a Mustang since it's a works car while the Mustang is closer to a sports car. That also means it's much more fun to drive and handles like on rails.

This is actually a car that gives you a perfectly valid excuse to visit your nearest race track.

Yeah, you should check out this site's sisterish site groucho.org if you want to read another one of ICJ's friends slobbering over his Sti year after year.

Here's a slightly more polished version of the story:

A couple of days later and I love it even more. It's the first car I've ever owned that I have absolutely 0 care about whatever other people think about it.

I am glad you got that car! That was the one I was gonna get but I decided to not get a new car after all.

I sort of just decided to not fix anything on my car.

I really did. Every time I get in the car I think of two things: my wife's 40th birthday, and that plate of spaghetti that ended up on the back porch.

I hope that I don't end up having to duct tape things together on my car, but based on how I've been driving it, I could see that happening.

I like how Subaru has the audacity to suggest that it's possible to get 23 mpg out of this car. Maybe if you idle around town?

Stay off boost and you will get surprisingly high MPG.

(You will not be staying off boost. Not for a long time.)

It looks like on the first tank I got about 17mpg, which is better than I was expecting.

I stay out of the boost until someone pulls up next to me and I am like YOU DONUT CHALLENGE THE STI BITCHES.

My wife has informed me that "owning this car is not a license to drive like an asshole."

I think she's wrong.

Owning an STI means you are REQUIRED to drive like an asshole.

Have you been looking up fart-can mufflers online? Are LED bodykits sneaking into your dreams? Do you imagine one day applying a giant SUBARU windscreen decal just in case people aren't clear on the concept?

The only mod I am currently considering is a Cobb Programmer. It looks like for $500, with the press of a single button, you can add 15hp, add 2mpg, and void your warranty all at once. What's not to like?

Also I already scuffed one of my rims on a curb. I'm so retarded.

It seems everybody around here is buying Fast and Furious cars and superbikes.

I'm just going to get in my simple, reasonable car and 10 and 2 it. No boost for me, I like a a nice, comfortable 35 miles per hour.

It's because you don't have a wife and kids. Get a wife and two kids and you will want to buy a fast car to drive around and pretend like you are 16 again. It will also make you want to drive fast and try and kill yourself.

That's true. I want to kill myself after two days when the kids come to town.

That first day is fun though.

Obviously Flack's wife doesn't read this fine forum.

If you want 15hp just get a manual boost controller and turn it up by a psi or 2 over stock. Keep doing this until you magically know where to stop before you pop the head gasket :(

But seriously, 2psi will probably be fine.
