I spent 20 minutes in chat yesterday trying to stop you. If that didn't do it, nothing will.

I just want you to explain the thought process, of trading away a classic game that EVERYBODY likes, for a clunky obsolete laserdisc game which NOBODY likes.

I just want to understand.

Simply from a technical perspective, that's bonkers. Centipede's a solid game. They still make trackballs and side art for it. Laserdisc games, on the other hand, are not aging well. Laserdisc players are all failing and the discs themselves are rotting. Even if you got a working one, it'll eventually die.

From a gameplay perspective... also, no. Every woman who walks into your arcade (two? three?) will squeal like a... well, girl, and then play Centipede. Nobody will be excited over playing Space Ace. Centipede is a game everybody has played and can play. It's a party favorite. Space Ace is a game few people played, and the few that did have great memories about "that goddamn game that stole my money."

Save your money and get the Daphne emulator. Play Space Ace every day for a week and see if you still like it. If you do... well still don't buy that machine.

If you really hate Centipede, buy that new multi board that has Centipede, Millipede, and Missile Command.

I think there's a guitar app on the iPhone for $0.99.

Make a MAME cabinet with a good CRT monitor.

Stop replying to this thread. You are just giving him the attention he wanted and did not deserve.

It's just that I think that having around 15 is a good number. I don't mean to be a drag on everyone. And sometimes these conversations result in interesting takes on arcade games.

I don't mean to be dramatic. :(

There is a certain pleasure in owning a Space Ace. For me, anyway. I want to be able to talk intelligently about laserdisc games from that era. I want to be able to talk about laserdisc games like how Han and Lando talk about the MF. But you're sitting there in orbit, eyes bugging out of your head, telling me it's a trap.

I guess I don't really want to get rid of Centipede. And mine is so nice!

In all honesty, I should do that with the multigame cab I have now. It's running a board with a bunch of vertical classic games. But it's limited. I should just put MAME on it.

The replay value of Centipede over Space Ace alone should make you reconsider this decision.

But yeahman if you are considering MAME in a cabinet you could also throw in Daphne which really is very, very close to the real thing so long as you are using the right settings.

Jizaboz is invited over when the Space Ace is ready, which I have been informed could be a while. None of the rest of you are unless you get on board REAL quick. Also technically this isn't my house any more.

Space Ace is a game in which you must make multiple split second moves, of which only one is correct. The game constantly nags and/or kills you for making the wrong decision, although what the correct decision was isn't always apparent. The game is a money pit, the newness wears off quickly, and you'll never be able to get rid of it.

Come to think of it, playing Space Ace is great training for living with a woman. I recommend you get one immediately.

Thanks, that makes two of you on board. I'm smelling what the Rock is cooking!

I just think the cab looks nice. Although typing "space ace cabinet" into Google Image Search does not show a good photo of just the cab. So I'll fix that.

The cabs always look pristine because nobody ever touches them.
