Inspired kinda by Flack's post about favorite movies of the decade -- my favorite albums. The rules I arbitrarily assigned myself: 1) at least one album per year 2) no more than three albums per year 3) no more than one album per band. That last rule means bands like Kylesa, Kendrick Lamar, Bronx, Pusha T, Titus Andronicus, and Sumac that all had multiple great albums lost out. Fucked Up got a pass because their two albums listed are both among my top five of the decade.
Having kids in 2013 & 2015 put a huge dent in my new-music listening, so pretty much everything after the Pusha T/Bronx albums up until, oh, late 2017 I got into retroactively.
2010:
Kylesa - "Spiral Shadow"
2011:
Fucked Up - "David Comes to Life"
Red Fang - "Murder the Mountains"
Rwake - "Rest"
2012:
Kendrick Lamar - "Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City"
Firewater - "International Orange"
Neurosis - "Honor Found in Decay"
2013:
The Bronx - "IV"
Pusha T - "My Name is My Name"
2014:
Shellac - "Dude Incredible"
Sturgill Simpson - "Metamodern Sounds in Country Music"
2015
Titus Andronicus - "The Most Lamentable Tragedy"
Sleaford Mods - "Key Markets"
2016
Dalek - "Asphalt for Eden"
Whores - "Gold"
2017
John Moreland - "Big Bad Luv"
Lana Del Rey - "Lust for Life"
2018
Fucked Up - "Dose Your Dreams"
Sumac - "Love in Shadow"
Idles - "Joy As An Act of Resistance"
2019
Cavity A.D. - "Wraith"
Lingua Ignota - "CALIGULA"
Pelican - "Nighttime Stories"

Re: gsdgsd's favorite albums of the decade
Would you say these span genres, gsdgsd? Or is there a certain musical style you are into and these bands are into?
While I have this thread here, this is something that Paul O'Brian wrote that I really liked, just some songs that meant something to him in 2019. I shoulda done that for my top songs of ever list, I like his format: https://superverbose.com/2020/01/01/del ... paper-cup/

Re: gsdgsd's favorite albums of the decade
Most of them are on the loud end of the spectrum, but some punk, some metal, some noise rock - there's a lot of room between, say, the Bronx and Sumac. A handful are hip-hop/rap (though again, lot of distance between Kendrick Lamar and Sleaford Mods), handful country.
Can we plug Spotify playlists in here, like that blog post? Or would that just screw things up horribly?
