Star Trek Shorts

Since I paid for a month of CBS All Access I've been checking out the rest of their catalog. I had never heard about "Star Trek Shorts" which is a series of 15 minute mini episodes which explore side stories about some characters that started back in 2018. Only watched one so far and it's pretty good: The Escape Artist. It focuses on Harry Mudd and I won't give away the twist at the end but it references the second Harry Mudd episode in the original series. The best part of the episode is Dwight (Rainn Wilson who also directed it) is probably the best current actor I can think of to play HM. I'm sure the episodes are on torrents too for everyone who doesn't want to pay for yet another stream.

I'm going to play CinemaSins critic and criticize this posting's click-baity title, because I expected it to be about Star Trek-themed short pants.

In case you don't know, CinemaSins is a YouTube channel that looks at movies and finds faults in them, sometimes for silly reasons, like (In a film other than the Taken franchise) "Liam Neeson isn't killing anyone in this scene." to serious (like how in Die Hard Nakatomi Corporation has $650 million in bearer bonds in its vault, after various federal financial laws were passed, that they must be doing massive tax evasion.)

So in some cases, Cinema Sins will "sin" (find fault with) a movie for doing something, then sin the same movie for not doing it, like sinning a movie for showing a scene with the Golden Gate Bridge in the background and not having some monster or catastrophe destroy it, and later, sin the movie again for the cliche of destroying the Golden Gate Bridge!

What this means is, if this had been about Star Trek themed short pants, I'd have complained it wasn't about Short Star Trek videos. And if it was about both, I'd have compained tht was ridiculous, it should be one or the other!

You've gotta watch the s02e02 "The trouble with edward" episode of Star Trek Short Treks. It's got Jon Benjamin (Bob from Bob's burgers, also Archer). It brings together tribbles with Jon being as funny as I've seen him, even walking around in his underwear and making sarcastic witty dialogue. I never knew what he looked like and he looks just like Bob from Bob's burgers. I heartily recommend this episode, it's only 15 min.
