Please recommend a legit paid binary usenet site

Post by Casual Observer »

Hey, I've been out of this scene for awhile but am finally frustrated about paying 4 bills a month for entertainment and still not getting the shows I want (right now it's Airwolf which nobody has right now) when I want them so fuck those assholes again. I get that torrents aren't what they used to be but it seems like binaries may still be the shit. I'm ready to pay for a usenet service but don't want to get my card number stolen (again) so can anyone recommend a legit usenet service that won't fuck me? Also, what's the best client to use these days? Sorry for being so lame as to not keep up with the times.

Flack's Usenet provider is better than mine. Actually, I should use his. But his internet is also better than mine. For Usenet, I use newshosting.com.

For an indexer, I paid these guys and it's been great - https://nzbgeek.info/ - they had a low cost initial membership. You can never tell when the sites go down, but here are their rates: https://nzbgeek.info/vigsubscription.php - if you think they will be around for more than 4 years then the lifetime membership is the way to go. When mine expires next I'll probably just go for the two year extension.

And then free version of Grabit for actually downloading stuff.

I use UseNetServer. Great speeds, great retention, and they throw a VPN service in all for $99/year. They also have a index search engine, although there are better ones out there. I run Newsbin Pro for a client. I think I paid $30 or $40 for a lifetime license a decade ago.

My caveat is, I get more from torrents these days than usenet. There are lots of bogus and malware infected files to deal with.

What torrent sites are legit these days? Last time I tried all I got was spam results. I started doing torrents on my phone to keep the malware off my computer but even so it's a pain. Plus, Verizon doesn't like me doing torrents on my unlimited broadband.

Did the Pirate Bay really come back? Last I used i thought they had been shut down and there were so many spam links it was almost unusable.

I did get a virus that I installed through TPB but I had to literally do 4 wrong things for it to infect my old Win 7 system that I had to blow away. Not really TPB's fault.

I am surprised that Flack has had bad virus luck with Usenet! I am fully on board with the #believeallusenetters campaign and it's important you all know it. So, I believe him. But I've had more luck there.

The virus I got, CO, was one that ran some Powershell script. They had the .mkv extension but it didn't show up as movie media in its icon. The textfile, the NFO that came with it said to go check a site to ensure that it was a real release and I couldn't find the release on that site. TPB also will put green skulls up for authorized uploaders and the thing I got didn't have it. And then I was in admin mode for my old computer so that gave Powershell the permissions it needed (I think.)

I doubt you would make so many of the same errors!

You'd probably be wrong, I'm not that sophisticated.

I got ransomware about 6 years ago from a torrent (or porn, but probably a torrent) but was able to spend the rest of the afternoon to get it all fixed up, I was able to clean up the registry and delete the shit before anything got actually encrypted (I doubt I'd be so successful with modern stuff). My usual security posture is just Kaspersky which actually won't let me click on most of the links I've found on TPB tonight. I do believe in doing everything in a guest account so hopefully that helps. I can't believe I sell security software and have such a lax attitude about it.

Does the phrase "the shoemaker's children" bring anything to mind?
Alan Francis wrote a book containing everything men understand about women. It consisted of 100 blank pages.

Are you guys finding this: a torrent looks to have hundreds or more seeders but the client just hangs for awhile and comes back saying no sources? Found this on RARBG. Maybe Tom Cruise and his billions of dollars have found a way to block this shit? Guess it's time to find a members only torrent site.

I have not been seeing that. I think Tom gets paid either way and he seems like the kind of guy that would torrent his own movies

He's a kewl dude.

Hmm, it's weird, not one of the maverick torrents on rarbg come up as bad. The Naked Gun movies I got from there worked. That and the fact none of the ones on tpb have any seeders made me wonder if some countertorrent operation is in place. Fine, I'll give tom another $20.

It appears that Cloudflare has stopped protecting thepiratebay.org, or something else is wrong.

Flack, I read that Torlock is dead. Anybody got suggestions now that TPB is down and RARBG seems to have a bunch of garbage torrents?
