Gerrit and I realized we don't know the pet situation with Pinback any more, so let's all count our pets. I'll go first:

2 dogs (Gritty, 12 and Honey, 9)
2 cats (Frobozz, 11, Reggie, 14)

Let's then talk about what you might get? Some day?

I've owned lizards and fish before and I don't consider them pets, they were basically emotionless shit factories. I would eat a bullet before I take care of a fish or reptile again.

I like the idea of cats due to there relative independence and I love how they go nuts after laser pointers but find them often times snooty, they stink, and lack the utility I require in a symbiotic relationship.

No hamsters or rabbits or such because I'm an adult.

I love dogs, dogs are great: they're playful and they serve a role against hostile individuals and larger animals. I know a number of people who own dogs and I end up playing with the dogs more than anything else when I visit. That being said, I can't see myself planning the next 7+ years around their bathroom schedule.

I don't like birds because they're basically flying lizards.

I'll probably end up getting dog one day.

Toonces 9+ (lost count)

Pendennis 3

The cat is mouthier than the dog. Dog would sit in a corner and starve to death without a sound all the while looking at us mournfully. Cat gets vociferous if his food bowl is less than half full. Or if his box isn't filled with fresh litter on a regular basis. Or just because he's a cat and that's what they do.

The pet sitter reports I still have two:

Cleopatra, 20 year old Seal Point Siamese
Thimble, 5 year old Mini Lop Eared bunny

Soon there's going to be a brackish fish tank including guppies and fiddler crabs. Later on I'll get a snake again.

Names, please. Names! We know that Boomer, Harley and Penelope are the dogs. I need names for the rest of 'em.

Wait, didn't you also have rats and spiders?

Yes, I think having the names of everyone's animals provided would help to take this thread OVER THE EDGE

Yeah, on second thought, maybe let's skip the bug names unless it's something like "Mister Bug" 1 through 2983.

Hahaha CGG! Yeah we need bug names.

The cat’s name was originally “little cat” but now it’s “Cat Dracula”.

Seeing it written like this, it looks like we were making a martial-arts reference here. We were not.

We were making a Jaws reference.

Pinback, why do you move so much? I moved from Rachacha to Seattle to Bay area over last couple decades but you seem to have lived in three times that or more. Don't you do software development? Why move to all these oddball places?

Well, while I'm here, let me clarify why we named our animals their names, almost all of which are related to movie/TV shows we like.

Harley: Kathy likes Harley Quinn.
Boomer: Battlestar Galactica
Penelope: That was her name when we got her, the only one on this list to keep their name.

Skyler: Obvious.
Cody: He's orange, and we liked Cody McLeod, who was an orange-haired Colorado Avalanche player at the time.

Bruce: Jaws, as previously mentioned.

Dink: Game of Thrones (Let me know if you need help with this one.)

Kevin: The Leftovers
Pope Pius XIII: The Young Pope

We lived in Nashville for five years, whaddya want from me.

I move to all these oddball places (here we are for some reason calling "Nashville", "Albuquerque", "Denver", "Seattle", and "Cincinatti" oddball places) because I work remotely, and because we like a change of scenery now and again, though the move to Ohio was mainly for the kid, so she can be near family and good schools and hospitals.

Sounds awesome, actually, thanks for the details. I could never live back near family because Rochester and jobs. Cincinnati, Albuquerque, Nashville seem oddball a bit to me but only because i never considered living there. Only one of those I've been to is Nashville and i couldn't live there.
